(21,977 posts)OH. And don't forget the watermelons.
Your statement is bullshit.

they cast blacks as tap dancers, because there were no white people who could tap worth a damn!
Sure, some came along later (Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, etc.), but in the early days - nope. And still today, I'd say most of the best tap dancers in the world are black. Savion Glover, Chloe Arnold, Jason Samuels Smith, Jumane Taylor, Derrick Grant, Toni Lombre, Anissa Lee - to name just a few.
I may be prejudiced, though. My son tap dances quite well. Oh - and he's black, too. (Doesn't like watermelon that much, though.)

(21,977 posts)I remember the incredible tap dancer who used to be on the Lawrence Welk show (I was only a kid and that's what my parents watched ...), but I can't remember his name.
My comment was, as I'm sure you know, for years those were the only roles black performers could get in Hollywood. And that was in response to the poster's comment that typecasting was based on reality.
I didn't intend to sound like I was dissing tap dancers.
Bake
'cause my tap dancing son is a rather large fellow!
(He plays football, too.)
Arthur Duncan was the name of the guy on Lawrence Welk.
There is still discrimination every day. "Entertainment" - sports being the main form - is one area where blacks are "accepted" unconditionally - that's because, generally speaking, they're just better. But other jobs - executive, coach, owner, anything other than the "labor" part - is still grossly discriminatory against non-whites and females. White males are still the dominant "ruling class" in this country.

(1,259 posts)I heard AR15s are going for over $5000 these days. Really really dumb... and then they complain about taxes probably...

(27,242 posts)My husband works with a right winger who brought a bunch of guns, got himself into heavy debt and lost his home to foreclosure. He had money for guns but not enough to make his mortgage payments. Maybe enough of these fools who spend $5000 for a gun will end up needing government assistance one day and won't get it because they voted rethuglican. These one issue voters might end up shooting themselves figuratively in the foot. Ha ha.

(10,440 posts)On the larger piece inside. The photo made me sick. A 15 year old with an AR15. The article made me sick. Most of all the MOTHER in the photo makes me sick. Really nothing about any of it that does not make me sick.

(56,582 posts)It's actually a problem for military marksmanship instructors recently.
Brother Buzz
(39,886 posts)The military desired trainees with no experience, a blank slate. I also remember a lot of time was spent getting the crack shots to unlearn a ton of civilian habits of handling rifles that didn't jibe with the military's scheme of things. But that was a long time ago and the instructors were brown boot soldiers.

(31,493 posts)and their problem. Even killing instructors are having a bad time. We need to become more war like and start a few more wars ...that will help our jobs situation and our economy.

(10,440 posts)the fact that a kid can acquire and sell that weapon makes me sick. A kid that is not old enough to drive, drink of make any decision for himself can openly carry a weapon and trade in it without any background checks MAKES ME SICK.

(56,582 posts)Also, remember California has an assault weapons ban, under which that gun is legal (which is why it looks different from a normal AR).

(18,585 posts)This is not an AR-15, it's a semi-auto .308.
The only difference between that gun and a remington woodmaster 750 is that this one has wood instead of plastic, and a pistol grip.

SQUEE
(1,320 posts)Says in the article he was selling it, probably got quite the pile of cash for it, enough for an actual AR, and a case of ammo.
