I have seen them from nine dollars up to about 150.$
Important features would be: auto on ,the camera turns on as soon as the car is started
It would need a decent enough resolution choice to capture details that would Be useful in a court case.
Also,
it overwrites the card when it's full ...
night vision would be nice, But, not critical
I would really appreciate any information
if anyone has personal experience with one of these units
thanks

(146,324 posts)when you start your car. In many situations, your car will not be running, like when you are pulled over by the police. Instead, have the cam start when you start it. A simple switch will take care of that.
On another note, I can't remember any time when I wished I had a working dash cam in my car. What sort of situation are you envisioning where you'd need such a thing running automatically all of the time?

I have about 60 people so far interested in affordable Dashcams and growing, so this is a first salvo in researching the subject.

(5,378 posts)I need something that is very easy to use for non-technical senior citizen types also the unit should look very low-key on the dash.

(39,343 posts)You can have it put on the ceiling near where your sun visor clips on. You can wire it to a hard drive that you can hide out of view. If you were near Atlanta I could hook you up with my old spy tech guy who could do it all.

(17,188 posts)Their "NiteDrive" model: day and night recording, 640x480 resolution, the recording cycles when the SD card becomes full, and only $79.99 (although you'll have to buy the SD card separately, which'll add to the ultimate cost a bit). With a 32GB card, it's supposed to record up to 17 hours or so (.AVI format, with sound) before it starts recycling.
I can't say yay or nay about it personally, since it's been too damned cold to plug it in and play with it outside in the cold cruel world. But here's the website, if you want to check it out yourself: http://www.electroflip.com/products/vehicle-video-recorders/nitedrive-night-video-driving-camera.html
There's a video there that supposedly shows the recording quality and the like. The video mentions that it'll take cards "up to 16GB" but the documentation I got says it'll accept cards from 256MB up to 32GB. Good luck (to both of us, I guess ).
Standard Disclaimer: I don't work for them, nobody I know works for them, and I didn't even know they existed until I started looking around myself...
