Wow the opening sentence of this local news story should shake things up with the cat lovers and Prius drivers among us:
An explosion and fire, which may have been sparked by a Toyota Prius charging in a garage, damaged a two-story condominium in Corte Madera and killed a cat Tuesday evening, a fire official and a resident said.

I drive a Prius hybrid, which charges itself while being driven, and am unaware of an electric Prius which has to be charged externally. Surely the report was mistaken.

The charging station meters the current flow and is supposed to shut off when a full charge is reached.

I drive a run-of-the-mill 2007, it's been a good car, just turned 160,000 miles.
