view than he does. I don't believe the current Party can claim they are the Party of President Lincoln. The original Republican Party of President Lincoln was dominated by abolitionists who were anti-slavery. They had no affiliation to white supremacists of the South. It is not only the Party of Abraham Lincoln but it was also the Party of Abolitionists such as Frederick Douglass,Garrison,Phillips and Sumner. President Lincoln was not the founder of this political movement when he was nominated to be its leader as a Presidential candidate. The slaveholders of the South saw this party as a threat because of its anti-slavery platform. This was the most important event that bought on the American Civil War when this Party gained power. This party grew out of the anti-slavery movement and was against State's Rights. Lincoln's Party today has been hijacked mainly by white Southern Politicians such as Strom Thurmond through the concept of the Southern Strategy that was hostile to strengthening Civil Rights for African Americans. So this is a continuing struggle throughout American History for equality in this Country. The names of the Parties are the same but the participants in each Party has changed.
