http://www.fair.org/blog/2013/03/06/ap-chavez-wasted-his-money-on-healthcare-when-he-could-have-built-gigantic-skyscrapers/One of the more bizarre takes on Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's death comes from Associated Press business reporter Pamela Sampson (3/5/13):
Chavez invested Venezuela's oil wealth into social programs including state-run food markets, cash benefits for poor families, free health clinics and education programs. But those gains were meager compared with the spectacular construction projects that oil riches spurred in glittering Middle Eastern cities, including the world's tallest building in Dubai and plans for branches of the Louvre and Guggenheim museums in Abu Dhabi.
That's right: Chavez squandered his nation's oil money on healthcare, education and nutrition when he could have been building the world's tallest building or his own branch of the Louvre. What kind of monster has priorities like that?

Better to build gigantic skyscrapers than care for the people ...sounds like the USA to me. Looks like the "AP" is the new Fox news. Notice the asshole uses the word "his" money. I heard another asshole today on WUSF radio calling Venezuela a communist country. WTF!

(62,325 posts)Well, that explains why they hated him. Not his people, they seem to love him enough to keep on electing him. But what do they know? WE know what is best for everyone on the planet!
All their oil are belong to us!

(62,325 posts)go to foreign oil cartels, as they should. No wasted money on keeping Americans alive here from OUR oil profits. Hell, we let tens of thousands of them die each year, from OUR oil revenues.
Not to worry though, I am sure we have people waiting in the wings to make sure that there will be no more such nonsense in Venezuela and those oil revenues will be returned to those who have a right to them.
Unbelievable article, well not really. I guess it's at least honest about the real reason why Western powers hated Chavez.

(62,325 posts)that are the American people. I am hopeful however, that Chavez had enough time to educate the people about their rights to their own resources and that they will no longer tolerate the theft of their resources by this country or any other.

Let me just point out that Libya had free medical care and free education regardless of gender through college under Qaddhafi. Hillary's sure glad he's gone though. I can still see her laughing her head off on the news: "We came, we saw, he died."

(62,325 posts)for the homeless and the disabled, free education even for those who wanted to go abroad to get it. We cannot have oil money paying for such things so we go and we show them what democracy is all about.
I will never forget that brutal war crime in Libya, nor will most of the world, especially Africa. As Desmond Tutu said about the horrible admission from Hillary, 'the murder of Gadaffi should have made every decent person in the world recoil'. But we do not recoil at murder and torture, we should be ashamed, some of us are.

(30,497 posts)I was surprised and disgusted when I heard MSNBC's Alex Wagner,
someone I had thought progressive, repeatedly trash him as a "dictator".
I sent her a tweet schooling her to the fact that this "dictator" was democratically
elected Four times!

(30,497 posts)That could be, I don't know much about her,
but I liked her personality and she seemed (unlike, say, Andrea Mitchell)
so at least be a solid Dem, so
I recorded her show on DVR every day, but stopped when I
heard her trashing Chavez.

(31,319 posts)i kept thinking the writer had to have been taken out of context somehow, but no: she really, apparently believes that big gaudy skyscrapers are worth more than a population lifted out of poverty. how pathetic is that.
