(3,596 posts)First of all anal sex is NOT exclusive to homosexuals. Many heterosexual couples engage in it on a regular basis
Second, it isn't the act of ejaculation that causes AIDS. It is the transmission of the HIV virus that infects a person and CAN progress to a diagnosis of AIDS. The virus can be spread in pre-ejaculate fluid, blood and saliva.
So a heterosexual couple that engages in any form of oral contact be it wet kissing or oral sex risks transmission of the virus if one partner is infected especially if the non-infected partner has sores or other tears in gums, lips or in or on genitals.
Third, with or without gay marriage, gay couples will have sex.
It seems to me his issue should be in funding appropriate education and prevention of the transmission of not only the HIV virus but other STDs among heterosexual, bisexual and homosexual persons.
Further, a couple that remains monogamous to one another and where neither partner is infected is the best possible situation to avoid the spread of HIV and other STDs. Gay marriage places those relationships on an equal legal and societal footing as those of heterosexuals. It just might in fact help keep couples together.

(6,279 posts)It's all just laying on the table the only thing the bigots have - appealing to a sense that there's something especially "icky" about homosexual sex.
In other words, logic and concern for health don't enter the picture at all. This is just about trying to drum up a visceral reaction. But you've certainly laid out all the reasons this makes no logical sense!

(18,421 posts)The only way one can contract HIV through kissing someone with it, is if there is blood present in their mouth, ie through an open sore, a very very rare occurrence.

(3,596 posts)I thought saliva was a potential transmitting vehicle if the non-infected partner had any open methods of penetration.
Generally, however, the idea is that whether an act is between two men, two women or a man and a woman, the methods of transmission are generally applicable. Whether or not these pairings engage in the same practices or not is beside the point. For example two lesbians will not be having any penis - anus or penis - vagina intercourse.

(49,212 posts)A lot of HIV denialists believe that AIDS symptoms are caused by some autoimmune response to anal sex (which seems to be what he's getting at) or by a response to the drugs used in treatment.
It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of fundamentalists are denialists, most of them are anti-science of any sort and particularly fond of woo medicine.

(56,582 posts)Semen contains an immunosuppressant chemical, and at one point before he went completely off the rails, Duesberg had some evidence that showed that was one component of the infection process -- though that was in a study of vaginal intercourse. Anyways, this morphed to "butt sex causes AIDS" among the great unwashed. Sigh.

(904 posts)Those engaging in heterosexual sex will never be exposed to the AIDS virus? He talks about a female "barrier" that prevents sperm from entering the bloodstream, I mean who knew??? And according to his reasoning, at least lesbians should be allowed to marry, they don't produce that nasty sperm that causes AIDS!

(35,015 posts)It is a fact that if a man with HIV infection has unprotected anal sex with anyone (male OR female), that person may become infected with HIV. This is the primary mode of transmission for the infection.
But twisting this fact as a reason against marriage equality is just stupid.
