If you really look at it, I bet dimes to a dollar that goodly chunk of the people who post on Democratic Underground are not that far from a financial crisis.
It only takes an illness, an injury, the loss of a job to plunge a lot of us into the maw of poverty.
And the Paul Ryans of the world are standing right behind the neediest getting ready to give them a little shove and then over the edge and into the abyss.
It is amazing that we have all sat around and watched all of this happen. It is as if the country is full of frogs in a pan slowly getting cooked to death.
And it has been going on and on and on since the country put a B rated actor into the White House. Clinton and now Obama are just variations on the theme. At least they made an attempt to divert a little somethin', somethin' to the 99'ers.
This is the thing that boggles my mind. The scions of the rich do not have to worry about student loans. They know that they can get into any college they can. They know that mumsy of daddy knows someone that can set their little darlings up for life.
The rest of us have to borrow tens of thousands of dollars in order to just be considered for a good career. While we pay back that huge debt, the kids of the wealthy are starting their lives with a clean slate.
You know this really has gotten worse in my lifetime. And I don't see a really big change for the better. Not as long as a billionaire can write checks to pay for a congress that will always say yes when Daddy Warbucks comes a callin'....
Oh well, rant on, bitch about it all. It doesn't do any real good as far as I can see. I guess when it all comes down to it; the country of ours is getting to look a lot like Rome. Except the Roman Senate and Emperors would throw games, feed the people, make sure they had clean running water before they commenced to debauching.
Now, I look around me and all I can say to you younger folks that there once was a land that believed in doing good for the people. That all went out the window when they made it more profitable to "invest" than work. The only thing is most of us don't have the extra cash to buy up them fancy financial creations those boys and girls over on K cook up real good.
What a country
