OK---let me add this real quick.
I'll simply round up a few friends--- attend some high visibility Occupy protests... take along some American flags.... make sure the camera's are rolling--- pull out my lighter fluid, strike a match--- and burn Old Glory.
Rinse and repeat a couple of times...and let the MSM, the concern trolls and pearl clutchers eat away until the movement is tarnished so bad it won't recover.
Snarf: Now most sane people will say that the movement is too big and that a few bad apples can't destroy it--- and I agree 100 percent with that.
But we have some--- yes even here on DU, who think this is the beginning of the end for Occupy because of a few charred flags.
This is not the beginning of the end---this is the beginning of the beginning. 2012 is going to rock for Occupy and nothing, and I mean nothing will hurt this movement.

(10,602 posts)The general public who does not have a pot to pee in economically are against them to. The same public that hates unions and labor laws and economic fairness. I guess we are deranged as a country.

(5,178 posts)They have voted with the most powerful mouth they have, the dollar bill, to continue and expand current practices. OWS represents a direct threat to profits over people.

(34,845 posts)The 1% are not afraid of OWS because there are a hundred OWS groups with about seventy different messages. No organization, no leadership, no targeted messaging.
The 1% are at their Tahiti beach front homes sipping margaritas. Why should they be worried about OWS when OWS is fighting the Oakland police for their 'right' to take over a public building?
I WISH OWS was more targeted and could get Congress to revoke some of the lop-sided laws they have put into place. They need to focus better.

(10,602 posts)Based on reports from protesters they were set up because all exits were blocked except the door to city hall. The YMCA opened its doors so they could get away from being beaten. The Oakland police are just a bunch of brownshirts. The people they take their orders from want to take away their pensions and bargaining rights.

(5,624 posts)and its been hard for Occupy groups to find indoor shelter without some sort of trouble (likely caused by agent provocateurs or other hangers-on). The college kids are back to their studies, etc.
But this summer is likely to be bigger and better than the last.

Maybe some of the misspelled signs are by our agents.

(82,849 posts)And there's a hard nut in this country's population that gets more exercised over a burned flag than it does over the flag-draped coffin of their son/daughter/father/mother/brother/sister/uncle/aunt who died for the greater glory and profit of the American Wehrmacht.
Or, at least, we think we need to pander to the sensibilities of this crowd to the exclusion of all else.
G'OWS.
