All the old stereotypes. Who is playing the class warfare card?:
Here's more laser-like focus on jobs from House Republicans.
House Republicans dont want Uncle Sam paying for any more lap dances.
A bill that GOP leaders are bringing to the House floor Wednesday would require states to prevent welfare recipients from accessing or spending their benefits at strip clubs, casinos and liquor stores.
Another scourge on society addressed by the Republican House. Because you know the first thing unemployed and low-income people do when they get their public assistance is run to the corner liquor store. No, no stereotyping by Republicans here. Hey, here's an idea: why don't you work on legislation to create some jobs for these people? Yeah, right.

you see many stores that are multifunction
most supermarkets around here sell beer and booze--they would have a liquour license--does that make them a liquor store????
i see unintended results here
or perhaps are the intended.....

(13,776 posts)I know it seems crazy, but it used to be that in some low-income areas of California there were liquor stores but no grocery stores. So, the liquor stores became the convenience stores, selling milk, etc.
I lived in an Alaska community where your options were to either buy your milk and eggs and other small shoppables from the locally-owned liquor store, or go to the AC value center that basically worked like a wal-mart, and had in fact put several other local businesses out of order.
And yes, when you live in a fishing community in a subarctic hellhole, you're going to know a lot of people on public assistance.
'Sides, as I figure it, if you want a bottle of jack, you get to buy a bottle of jack. This paternalist bullshit needs to stop.
