I turned on C-SPAN a little early this morning because I could not sleep and caught the tail end of a speech by Ted Cruz, new Tea Party Senator from Texas.
Wow! This is like a Party convention less than 2 months after President Obama has been sworn in for a second term. Does anyone want to know where the division in this country originates? Just listen to these folks. Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and the list goes on.
But, why does the CPAC have a convention so soon after the last election? Where is the Democratic Party response to this nonsense?
One after another they attacked the President and the problems that they helped to create, but never accepting any responsibility.
The election season has already begun.
And I wonder how can we fight back against attacks such as these with moderate language and rational arguments? Do you fight fire with fire or do you just add oxygen to the flames? How dangerous is it not to fight back against these extremists? What is the best way to fight back?

(11,464 posts)Have major fraction like 1968, 1972, 1980, 1984, 1988, 2000, 2004 and the republicans are seated as Presidents by sneaking in when the democratic voters have mock protests and sit on their rear ends or don't realize the importance.
Everyone of President Obama's core mega fans (like myself and 90% of the democratic party) needs to vote in 2014 and back the Presidential candidate (most likely Hillary) in 2016 no matter what.
And not listen to any of the talking heads.
To tell the truth, if Fox/CNN/and any other conservative media just up and faded away,
along with any on the other side, it would be a much better world.
Who needs spin 24/7/365.
Just listen to the candidates of your party and vote for them.(or in the rare instances where there is no democratic candidate on the ballot, or one who cannot win, the one who will caucus with the democratic party).
Then don't worry about voting against someone else.
Don't like the specific person on the democratic ballot? Don't be greedy, hold your nose and vote for them anyhow.
They are better than the person on the other tickets.
Sure NJ could have had a better candidate than Jon Corzine, but I voted for him, he is a helleva lot better than Chris Christie is, shame there wasn't a different person other than Corzine, but well, Bill Bradley whined and left the arena, they kicked McGreevey out for being Gay, Codey was demoted as the party bosses did not want him, and Corzine was left standing.
Therefore I proudly voted for him.
Sure enough, Christie won as not enough people voted.
Shame as day to day he proves he is not for anything anyone who is a democratic person wants, and lately Chrstie is turning into a rightwing racist and anti-female candidate to rearkiss the conservatives.
And note, Elizabeth Warren used to be a republican and voted for Reagan and Bush.
I don't hold it against her, and if she were on my ballot, I would 100% support her.
Senior Senator Warren is now 100% part of Team Obama and the Democratic ticket.
She has my undying love as part of that team and ticket.
to paraphrase alot of old country songs-
It's not who brought you to the dance that matters
It's who you leave the dance with that is important as of March, 2013.
so ignore the CPAC (or is it CCRAP) they are not looking for our votes anyhow, nor care what we think about them as they will end up nominating Jeb and not one of the loons on the far right, and it takes a Clinton to defeat a Bush.

(27,315 posts)For the same reason Progressives have one every year in May or Junehttp://www.ourfuture.org/conference/2012/main, and yes, including years after elections.
It is good propaganda and it is what these groups do. Propaganda promoting their issues.
The best we can do is to criticize their ideas, and show how they are out of touch. CONSERVATISM IS THE PROBLEM.

(31,706 posts)Fortunately the Democrats don't have anything like a CPAC...maybe Netroots nation...but no one place where Liberals and Progressives spend a weekend in their bubble pretending the world isn't what it really is.
CPAC is held every year around this time and has been very amusing this year due to the fact of the beating the rushpublicans took last year. This is the first chance we have to see if they've learned anything...and apparently that isn't the case based on all the losers who have paraded to the rostrum. If anything, any publicity generated has been mostly negative and ridiculing...calling Grifterella's bit yesterday more stand-up comedy than real political speech and even the freepers aren't real happy with Paulbot Jr. winning the straw poll.
The best way we fight back is by doing what we've done all along...stood by the truth and economic and civil rights for all. Each day the voices and issues of the unhinged become less and less relevant and their mouthpieces become less and less credible.
No question campaign 2016 is on and CPAC shows another lesson not learned...the party is as divided as ever and is sure to have yet another destructive demolition clown car derby that will further divide that corrupt and inept party...and if Democrats are smart...play it into huge losses in 2014 and 2016 as the rushpublicans become more disconnected from virtually all voters who aren't male, white and over 65...

(7,044 posts)These CPAC folks (R) really do hate America. They like to wear their made-in-China lapel pins of American flags, but when you parse what they have to say, it's basically "We hate America."
