SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A man accused of killing a Syracuse woman and raping her 10-year-old daughter during a carjacking was beaten and suffered a broken nose on his first day in jail, authorities said.
David Renz had a swollen face and tissues stuffed up both nostrils when he appeared in federal court Friday to face a probation violation charge.
"I have a broken nose," he told his lawyer, according to The Post-Standard in Syracuse (http://bit.ly/15b7NLd).
His attorneys, James Greenwald and Kenneth Moynihan, said Renz was assaulted by other inmates at the Onondaga County Justice Center, where he was taken following his arrest Thursday night.
Sheriff Kevin Walsh told the newspaper he was looking into why Renz was put into a holding area with other prisoners not the usual practice in holding someone facing such accusations.

(21,363 posts)several women that have survived rape, as the daughter of a rape survivor, as the sister of rape survivors, I am tired of men getting away with this shit. I am not advocating the beating, nor rape of anyone, this guy does deserve his time in court.
I admit that I commented too quickly as an emotional reaction when I saw 10 years old. I mistakenly thought he had been convicted already. However, I cannot have much compassion for men like this one when they do finally reap what they have sown.
I do not believe in the death penalty either, not even for war criminals.

(10,960 posts)This is something people do not seem to get... the state is RESPONSIBLE FOR everything that happens in prison. The state creates the entire situation. The state makes it impossible for people to be safe.
Everything that happens in prison is on the state. With total authority comes total responsibility.
And the state is not allowed to beat people up, rape people, murder people without due process and a state death sentence, etc..

(68,868 posts)the estate of the woman he murdered/in trust for the child he raped.
A broken nose ain't shit compared to being raped as a ten-year old.

(30,439 posts)So his beating would be a good thing for two reason:
1) This asshole gets to feel pain
2) The victim's estate gets money.
A win-win situation.

(20,317 posts)I mean, if that's how it worked, you'd be setting up an enormous incentive for victims and their families to hire prisoners to beat the shit out their attackers in prison. It'd certainly be a win/win for THEM, but also a huge mess.

(10,996 posts)someone is accused of a crime, not convicted, gets the shit beaten out of him, and so far it's almost unanimous that it's a good thing.
Fucking crazy.
