Newt Gingrich's guy spews racist nonsense in an epic MSNBC showdown

I’m supposed to be writing a piece for the morning making sense of the Florida primary, but I have to post this interview Rachel Maddow and Rev. Al Sharpton just did with Rick Tyler, Newt Gingrich’s former communications director who now runs his Sheldon Adelson-funded super PAC. Normally he’s pretty sedate on television, at least lately. Not Tuesday night.

Maddow asked Tyler about some of Gingrich’s racially coded attacks on President Obama, and Tyler went off. He began by comparing the Republican and Democratic platforms of 1856 and finding the Democratic platform was racist, and that was about the last true thing he said. From claiming Democrats “abort [black] babies” to charging that African-Americans need the movie “Red Tails” because they don’t have any positive role models, it was the GOP id unleashed. Watch at your peril.

I saw this live last night and really could not believe my ears. Maddow and Sharpton asked Tyler to comment on Gingrich's racially coded language. He went into Faux Outrage mode and claimed MSNBC was race baiting. He then doubled down like crazy, claiming, among other things, that African Americans have been "bribed" to vote for Democrats with "handouts." Some of the most racist things I've ever heard someone on television say.

Of course wingnut media is all over this, claiming that Tyler 'triumphed' over Maddow and Sharpton's "race baiting".

In my world, saying more and more egregious racist things in order to claim you aren't race baiting does not count as a triumph.

2. The gop has really sunk in the past 50 years

I believe the decline started with Nixon....anytime you run on fear, paranoia, ignorance, selfishness and racism...this is the end result. The gop has sunk to the bottom of the barrell and it will just get worse unlessis infection on society is scrubbed and disinfected with reason and progressivism!
