(62,683 posts)been preferable to pass the civil rights act without the fighting and bloodshed (and I'd have to agree). Did I misunderstand?

(40,656 posts)for civil rights. 20% of the american people were for civil rights then. Christie wanted a majority vote at a time when you could be lynched for not moving off the sidewalk for a white person.

Our side is supposed to be above this bullshit...if for no other reason, we have PLENTY OF FODDER for attacking them without sinking to the same disgusting behaviors as them.

(110,159 posts)At Wed Feb 1, 2012, 03:58 PM you sent an alert on the following post:
Hey that fat ass Chris Christie apologized
REASON FOR ALERT:
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See <a href="http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=aboutus#communitystandards" target="_blank">Community Standards</a>.)
YOUR COMMENTS:
There is no reason to use terminology that is offensive to other duers.
JURY RESULTS
A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Wed Feb 1, 2012, 04:22 PM, and voted 3-3 to LEAVE IT ALONE.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: "fat ass" is pretty mild and I don't think it smears people who may be "well filled out" or "amply proportioned". In this context I think it's OK.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: insensitive - no need to highlight the weight issue.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Not even close to "disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate."
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Insensitive, but not quite to the level of a "hide".
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: If the term "Fat ass" were pertinent to the point (ie: "The fat ass said he hates dieting", then it might be appropriate. Here it is not. I would encourage the poster to repost the same OP with other derogatory adjective... lots of them.
Thank you.

(24,331 posts)Funny how apparently ridiculing overweight people is a-okay according to a jury, but I once got a post hidden--my only one, ever--for saying that someone didn't have an accurate view of reality. In those exact words.

I do read, speak, and comprehend english. Oh, and I am also a "fat-ass", struggling, middle aged, indian (feather not dot), along with all the normal challenges we all go through. I don't react to casual references, and I can discern when a comment is directed at an individual in a hurtful manner. I would, and have voted to hide those particular threads.

(24,331 posts)...which in part read that I don't care if someone is fat themselves, it's still not cool to make those kinds of remarks. I still stand by the fact that it is not at all acceptable to throw around insults about somebody's weight. We wouldn't tolerate it here if it were a casual comment about his race, I don't see why it's okay when it comes to personal appearance.
