Visas for high-skilled workers could double under bipartisan Senate plan

A Senate immigration plan would dramatically increase the number of high-skilled foreign workers allowed into the country and give permanent legal status to an unlimited number of students who earn graduate degrees from U.S. universities in science, technology, engineering or math, according to people familiar with the negotiations.

The agreement would be a major victory for the tech industry, which has backed an intense lobbying campaign on Capitol hill.

Brilliant.

4. It has taken my brother-in-law, an IT worker

years to find a job in his field. He would be homeless if he hadn't moved in with his dad.

My husband, a long-time IT professional, has been looking to change jobs since October without a single interview. In the past he used to be able to fins a new job within a month.

We don't need more cheap foreign IT workers - we need jobs for American citizens

Dice is a very good place to look for IT jobs.

We're afraid his age may be a factor this time around. He's an Oracle DBA, and there's a chance his current job could end in a few months, because it's a federal contract.

The other issue is that we live in Maryland, and most of the jobs in his area are in Virginia, which is a horrible commute from our home. He's done it before, but it's exhausting, particularly if he's working the long hours he usually puts in.
