It is with joy that I bring you the winners of the photo contest for March:"A Photographer's favorite"
You, the voters have contributed to it with your enthusiastic participation, and your comments. This contest had the most votes in any I have witnessed, and I thank you for making it a success.
The photographs were spectacular throughout. Winners were tough to determine and many great photos were left behind and did not make the finals.
Here are the winners
FIRST PLACE
rdking647
I'm coming for you
SECOND PLACE
Justiceischeap
A Portrait of Intensity
THIRD PLACE
MichaelSoE
Garlic and White Onions
the other seven finalists are:
Bluedigger with "WINTER RANGE"
in a three way tie with Johnny Noshoes and "CURTAIN"
and with Mz Pip and "MISTY SOLITUDE"
then come a la izquierda with "PANES OF GOLD"
and
Celebration with "THREE PHASES OF LANDING"
Crepuscular with "HOLDING BACK THE MIST"
and Free State with "SAN DIEGO AT NIGHT"
All the finalists spoke to me in their own ways, some of them I love with a passion by now. I am genuinely grateful I did not have to vote for any of them over the others.
=======================================
As my host's choices I want to select
Alfredo's "Youth" because these two with their aptly named expression have grown dear to my heart. I would recognize them anywhere, Alfredo's artistry captures the essence of people.
and Johnny Ringo's
"The Decadence of Color" because it's a happy and beautiful celebration of pin-striping and photography. Both are dear to my heart and play a role in my life.
It has been a pleasure to bring you the contest of the Photographer's favorites, and now with a congratulatory bow I pass the honor of hosting the next contest on to rdking647.

(18,614 posts)As usual, the people of DU have expressed unparalleled good judgment in their votes. Personally, I liked the night image of San Diego. I loved the myriad of colors bleeding into the waterfront, but there was some worthy competition.
Thanks for hosting such a wonderful event Mira.

(18,614 posts)You're being too kind, but I liked that particular subject because, as you probably already know, color is rare in the Rat Rod Kulture. They're like the Amish of the car community.
Their cars are works of art though, and I can spend a gigabyte taking pix of them and the resourceful improvisations they employ. Imagination is everything on a rat rod.

(60,071 posts)There is one Rat Rod on the north of town. I photographed it this past summer.

(17,085 posts)It was a great subject, and showed a lot of craftsmanship by the photographer as well.

(31,130 posts)In the opinion of this art director (for what that's worth), these are the two of the finest photos I can recall seeing on D.U. A Portrait of Intensity is incredibly mesmerizing -- just wonderful (the perfect crop, too)! I love the lighting and composition of Garlic and White Onions. In 30+ years of reviewing/buying table top food photography I have not seen any better. Congratulations to you both.

(14,040 posts)As a web designer, I was able to salvage a truly horrible photo with some post processing and a good crop.

(14,040 posts)If my cat sees me coming with a camera, she usually runs. Apparently, she's camera shy.
Good luck getting your shot.
