California Attorney General, just on Rachel show. IMO she's part of Dem's DEEP bench for the future.

She actually believes in prosecuting bankers.
Deal Breaker: California state Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris refuses to let five big banks get off easy
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x2384150
....Harris has come under pressure from the Obama administration to get with the program and agree to a settlement. (Having declined to go after the bankers themselves, administration officials now want some agreement, however inadequate, that they can tout to voters.)
....
In this case, Harris' smart politics is also good policy for California. Positioned at the very center of the fight between Wall Street and the 99%, Harris has come down on the side of the 99%. That speaks well not just of her but of the emerging movement, whose voices she's heard, to restore some equity to America's politics and economy.

(32,139 posts)telling local law enforcement that they have the power to ignore Obama administration demands to detain/deport undocumented immigrants:
She seems to have real principles.
http://colorlines.com/archives/2012/12/california_atty_gens_new_position_on_deportation_program_is_a_win_for_immigrant_rights.html
California Attorney General Kamala Harris jumped in to the immigration debate on Tuesday by announcing law enforcement in the state can ignore Obama administration requests to hold undocumented immigrants. Harris said law enforcement agencies were not obligated to comply with the federal law called Secure Communities....Harris announcement is seen as a win for immigration reform because she is the chief law officer of the state that boasts the largest number of Secure Communities deportations.
....
Kamala Harris announcement yesterday that local police departments may ignore federal immigration detainers is a blow to the Obama Administrations leading deportation program, said Seth Freed Wessler, Colorlines.coms investigative reporter.
The announcement is among the biggest victories for immigrant-rights advocates who have said for years that the program does not target hardened criminals as the government claims, but instead leads to the deportation of any undocumented immigrant who has contact with the criminal justice system, Wessler said.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement statistics indicate that 2,388 undocumented immigrants with no convictions were detained and deported after arrests in California under the program between March 1 and June 30, according to the AP.

(74 posts)She handles herself with such ease, maturity, wisdom, and knowledge. I did appreciate her standing up for the people instead of the banks and did not roll over when asked to get out of the way. She will rise even further, no doubt.
She is so smart.

(1,044 posts)she's got a good shot at the Senate when Feinstein or Boxer retire. The question is will she have to fight Gavin Newsom for it?
He seems more interested in being Governor, though. But I do have a soft spot for Jackie Speier for Senate. Oh well, both our senators are old - I think this is probably Feinstein's last term - perhaps Boxer's, too.

(14,887 posts)a great combo to replace Boxer & Feinstein. I like that, since 1992, both our senators are women. It has served us well.
Harris will be termed out in 2018, when Feinstein's current term is up.

(116,464 posts)California Attorney General Kamala Harris (D) defended the idea of an assault weapons ban Sunday, even though the chances of a national ban are now quite slim, and commended Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) for advocating for such a ban.
"I, as a career prosecutor, have personally seen cases of both police officers and innocent babies being killed by assault weapons," Harris said on CNN's "State of the Union." "There is no reasonable basis for having those in our streets."
"I think the folks in D.C. have to reject a false choice that suggests that you're either in favor of the Second Amendment or you're in favor of reasonable and common sense gun laws. You can be both," she said.
