They just pushed my favorite channel, TruTV, to the next highest price tier.
I thought that's what happened when the channel "went dark" yesterday. It now says "Not Authorized."
So I called and they have it in their recorded message: "TruTV viewers: In order to provide a balance between quality programming and affordable pricing, TruTV has been moved to the next highest price tier."
I have "expanded basic" and other than MSNBC, TruTV is about the only channel I watch. Or "watched." BITE me, Comcast.

(14,400 posts)My major beef is the slow but steady price hikes, especially the idiotic fees. It's like a leaking faucet you don't really notice anything for a long time and then when you notice it nothing else seems to matter.

(25,438 posts)same price, and a lot more channels. I was pissed when they made Turner Classic Movies an "upper tier" channel (why?). Got it back.
Check 'em out.

(25,438 posts)Comcast's line would drop and they'd shrug their shoulders. I had a secondary email account that I had on their server, and never used a third party email client for that account; they deleted 10 years worth of emails, except for one. "Not our fault, must have been something you did." Got the runaround about them restoring them from a backup. I was done.
Hoping these won't happen with them.

(4,211 posts)but it's not offered in our area yet. We were having problems with ATT UVerse and finally ended up switching to WOW. It's more expensive but at least the TV/internet doesn't go out randomly every day.

(30,885 posts)I've gone through a decade of flake landlords. I've had the property sold out from under me on a number of occasions in the last decade. I had DirecTV before. If I thought I'd be able to stay in one place for any length of time I'd have it again.

(30,885 posts)...I called them the last time I wanted to get it and asked "What happens if I move before the year is up" and they said "You can take it with you any where you move in the U.S." and I said "OK, what if the new landlord won't let me have the dish on the roof" and they would not confirm, one way or the other, that I wouldn't be charged for the number of months remaining in my "contract." SOME landlords won't let you put the dish up. If that's the case, DirecTV does not explicitly state "If you aren;t allowed to have it, we won;t charge you."
That's why I haven;t had DirecTV for about 10 years.

(2,657 posts)you ever saw. We have gone without comcast for 2 years now. Their version of EXPANDED cable (some call it standard cable) is like 30 channels when most other companies give you 75-90 channels on expanded basic cable.
Monoplies suck. I don't understand how Cable companies CANNOT have competition in towns. Allow 2 cable companies per town and see just how fair and reasonble rates will be.

(65,227 posts)That's not how it is where i live. The TV in the living room, (which we don't use much) and the one in our guest bedroom just has the basic box that you need when the system went 100% digital. So, those are basic. The higher level HD boxes are in the bedroom and rec room, and that's what we're really paying for.
But, there is easily more than 70 channels on the TV's with basic. Probably closer to the 90 you mentioned. So, i guess the same company doesn't do the exact same thing in all locations I didn't expect that.

(2,657 posts)They are the only cable in town and Well they are basically forcing people to get digtial boxes. You have what they refer too and the economic package which is 20 channels. and then the classic line up which was about 1/2 of what standard cable use to be. You can't even get syfy channel or (I think it was ) food network without a digital box now.
When we had cable we had the digital box and NO special channels like HBO or Starz. We had what most other companies call the digital line up and we did have the sports package so that my husband could get the soccer channel. It was $100.00 a month.
DVR service for comcast in my area was $15.00 when the average around the area was $10.00.
BELIEVE me I was Price shopping like crazy.

(16 posts)I dropped them as soon as DSL was finally available to us. We use Qwest/Centurylink.
Went DTV, never looked back. Happy with their service for the last 6 years.
My parents are still using the highest tier of Comcast, and I'm telling them to swap to DirecTV which does a better job of handling HD channels than Comcast will ever do.
And I only use Plus services, and it does have TruTV and Current in it.
(that's the 2nd tier, after basic)

(38,334 posts)I won't pay to have garbage delivered to my house.
That's why I always ask Comcast, AT&T, Dish, and DTV, how much they will pay ME to bring their "service" to my house.
Sometimes they don't understand and they'll offer some price like $39.99, and I'll say, "Fine, you can come out and set it up after I cash the first check. But I won't promise to turn it on."

(30,947 posts)I had DishNetwork, but the trees around my house and in the neighborhood blocked the satellite signal. Even Direct TV could not get a clear signal because the satellite was too low and the dish could not pick up over the trees. And everytime it rained or became overcast, I would lose reception. So I had no choice but to switch to Comcast.

...which completely blocked the "clear shout at the south side of the sky" needed by DirecTV.
The installer came out on a day during "the leaves are gone" season. He said "It shouldn't be a problem." I said "What about when the leaves grow back?" He said "Then, it might be a problem."
I ended up getting Comcast. Even then, same crap...including FREQUENT price increases. I had ALL of the premium channels, and eventually whittled it down to HBO only (because "The Sopranos" was still on).
The morning after the final episode of "The Sopranos" aired, I gabbed up my equipment, went to the Comcast office, and cancelled everything. Haven't had cable since, until recently, and I'm disappointed (but not surprised) to see how nothing has changed. Comcast STILL sucks.

(4,876 posts)I like Comcast. I have been using them over 10 years now. This month my bill was $40 more than usual, I called them, they looked, fixed it, and all is well. I have had exactly 2 outages in the years I have had them and both times I have a service man here the same day. I never have any trouble from them, the service is good, and they have handled any problems I have had quickly and easily.
Yes they are a huge sucky corporation, and I'm sure some self righteous DU'er will tell me what an asshole I am for "supporting" them, but frankly with all this brand loyality crap floating around I don't give a shit. I'm tired of people who identify with certain brands acting all superior because their brand doesn't use slave labor.
Guess what? If you are an American you are using products that are made by companies that exploit people. There is no avoiding it. Bragging about how Apple is better than Microsoft or Samsung is better than Apple is just more bullshit thrown out there to divide people.

(30,885 posts)TV Land is virtually unwatchable. It pixelates, it drops off altogether, I seldom bother trying to watch it. Same for History Channel. Sometimes you can catch it on a good day, others it's gone.
I don't care how big they are or who they are and I'm glad your pleased with their services.
MY service sucks monkey ass.

(4,876 posts)it was AT&T and I was with them first, they were the first broadband connection in my neighborhood and I never had any problems so I stuck with it.

(30,885 posts)...when I lived in San Jose a few years ago, AT&T had JUST finished installing fiber optics (and they were pushing the whole "UVerse" thing) about ONE WEEK before I moved. I was bummed OUT.
I then moved into a house in Santa Clara which (according to an AT&T tech who came out) was at "the end of the line." He pointed to the telephone pole in my back yard....sure enough, I was at the end of the line, which meant my DSL was the worst signal at the end of a long line of crap signals. He also told me my DSL had to be downgraded (they couldn't deliver the fastest speeds) because the wiring was so old.
Where I am now, it's somewhere in between. It's classified as Comcast's "Digital non-rebuild." Sometimes it works well, other times channels drop out. TV Land hardly EVER looks good. History Channel is 50-50. The rest are reasonably reliable.

(2,066 posts)with Comcast. It's weird because I have heard many people complain about them, and I've always wondered why my experience has been so different than all of these people. They have great high-speed internet accees, and I like their digital cable/dvr AND digital telephone service. I have the whole bundle, and I've never had any major problem with any of it. Customer service has always been good too. I've been with Comcast for over 12 years.
I DID have a lot of issues with AT&T, which is why I switched to Comcast, but I know people who love AT&T.
