That question has been asked me so many times since 2011, that I just want to scream! Apparently a poor woman is expected to have a bunch of kids.

I remember when I went to sign up for food stamps, the agent just assumed I had kids, pulled out the paperwork and just asked "how many?". When I told him I did not have kids he asked "Are you sure?" with the oddest look on his face. Then when I went to this one shelter, they asked me where my kids were staying and why could I not stay with them. Not "do you have kids?" but they just assumed I had them.

And it is not a race thing, my skin is white. It is economic.

you don't have kids???

That would be downright hilarious on the face of it, but it really is an ignorant question to ask a woman. As if you wouldn't know.

He was boggled enough when I told him my education level. Good thing I had my diploma in my pack with me. It is one of two things I never left anywhere.

... perceptions, assumptions, stereotypes. Don't you think the first words out of their mouths should have been "How can I help you?"...with a sincere smile? OR they were overworked, probably doing the job of three or more people. Burnt out. At their wits end and almost out of their effing minds with the craziness of this broken society. What ever happened to "First, do no harm," and to human kindness?
