(8,515 posts)I loved their music back when....However Steve Perry their lead singer has not been with them for years
and to me he was the sound of the group. So I can take some solace in that!
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)their new singer sounds just like Steve Perry. He was picked from a youtube video of him doing covers of Journey songs with his band in the Philippines.
busterbrown
(8,515 posts)Fuck Journey for sure because they played for the 1%.
Sounding like and copying someone artistically is second rate. It aint the real thing
and for me he doesnt work at all. Its pure copy catting!
The way it should be done is the way Paul Rogers did it with Queen. Now that was great!!

(13,905 posts)I'm actually amazed that I do. I'm 66 years old, but whatever.
I've gotten into a lot of the newer music, like Deadmau5 & Skrillex. Arcade Fire is the best band on the planet (IMO), yet most of my friends had never even heard of them until I started obsessing over them.

(1,044 posts)It strikes me as unbelievable. Why would the RNC want Lady Gaga - a provocative, openly pro-gay, ultra-liberal? It seems utterly unlikely.
Also, the source is the Washington Examiner, a right-wing rag.

I said yeah and she said that she wanted a ride.
Turned out, she was Gaga.
I have pictures of us, smoking KOOLS.
Went back to the house (with entourage), pissed off GF, who was either working or asleep...
Lady Gaga (she calls herself Steph) played some really cool acoustic blues.
While totally ignorant (thankfully, probably) of her 'music', that woman can play...

(15,164 posts)But I certainly respect her as an entertainer and a performer and also as an activist
Given her past history with social issues and political activism, it mystifies me why the RNC organizers thought she'd be interested in performing there. Perhaps they thought that she'd compromise all her principles for money. They really should have known better

(12,189 posts)Hmmm... wonder if the story is true? If so, we'll hear it somewhere else tomorrow. Good on Lady Gaga if it is. I'm not real crazy about some of her music, but some I really do like. And what I like more than anything is how she loves her little "Monsters." She has probably saved more young lives than we know, with her uplifting messages to them. "Born This Way" was just brilliant. Yeah, Repugnants, take your million bucks and stick it where the sun don't shine.
Lady Gaga doesn't want or need your dirty-rotten stinkin' money!
Mad Maddie
(11 posts)To her, $1 million is just a drop in the bucket. Ok, maybe it's a few drops in the bucket. It's less than a week of her average annual income which I've heard is about $62 million.

With liberals, it's all about people. Conservatives simply can't understand how liberals will turn down an opportunity to make money because of their principles and beliefs.

(45,319 posts)RNC would not count as a private show for several reasons and of course they'd not cut a check to his AIDS Foundation either.
I can understand the desire to refuse the donated wealth of various people such as Rush. I can also understand that when one is a performer selling tickets to the public on a massive scale it is a bit delusional to claim standards about who hears your act. Because the Devil can buy a seat and sit right down. Rush can buy a ticket. Can't stop him. So why not take the donation?
Two ways to look at it. One of the ways shorts the foundation a million. And that is a strong argument.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Don't think he donated any money from that to his foundation...

(53,190 posts)...but if I were her and this was true, I would have done it. But only if they paid me in large suitcases full of $20 bills delivered before the show.
There is no more Republican-hostile entertainer on the planet than Lady Gaga. They know it. So does she. Now imagine Gaga playing the RNC: she would write a whole set of extremely pro-gay songs ("Born This Way" would be mild next to these), then ring the stage with gay men French kissing each other throughout her concert. And because Lady Gaga knows how to use a phone book, the stage, her generators and all her cabling would have been guarded by the local chapter of the Hells Angels.
The resulting concert movie, filmed in IMAX, featuring footage of Repukes fainting, Repukes exploding and Repukes attempting to storm the stage and being beaten senseless by Hells Angels, would have been the top-selling concert film this century. You would go.
The most entertaining part would be the inevitable RNC lawsuit to recover their money on grounds she did not provide suitable Republican-friendly entertainment. It is no secret what Lady Gaga does for a living. She's got CDs out. She's on iTunes. She's on YouTube. She's been in the papers. Anyone with an internet connection can look her up and see she doesn't do Leo Sayer songs. Trying to sell a jury on the notion they didn't know Lady Gaga would actively try to give Republicans heart attacks would be approximately as funny as Christine O'Donnell's I'm Not A Witch ad.
Oh, and all the twenties? She would distribute them to homeless shelters and soup kitchens.

(966 posts)That no amount of money could interfere with her convictions!
With that said, part of me thinks she should have played their, taken the $1 million, and then donate it ALL to a charity helping LGBT youth! That would have been quite a story, and in the middle of an election cycle!
Come to think of it, "Born This Way" would have been an appropriate song for many of the wealthy, older Conservatives there who were born into wealth and privilege!
