Stephen Stills on Hilary 2016 and Obama's CPI manuever

On Hilary: Stephanie asks rock legend, Stephen Stills, if Hillary Clinton is going to run in 2016. Still says, “Are you kidding, she is the Energizer Bunny. The idea of her taking a year off is as ridiculous as Justice Scalia making sense.” Stills says she is all woman, all there and she is completely present and tough as nails.” Stephanie adds, “it is such a groundswell. it is hard to ignore it.”

On Obama and CPI: "I think that this guy here [Obama] should have his chance. He's laid another trap for them and we should let it play out. I happen to really like him and I think what he's doing is a little mouse and cheese with the CPI."

I don't worry about the Clintons, including Hillary. She's a survivor of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, which actually exists. She's a survivor of Kenneth Starr and Whitewater and being accused of murdering one of her best friends. She's a survivor of her husband's foolish infidelities.

So, I think she'll do okay, whatever she decides to do. Likewise her husband, the Big Dog. He's done more good in his post-presidential years than most of us ever could dream of.

How often do you hear of someone who is tops in their field be in engineering, medicine, law, finance or show biz and their ego becomes so large they think they can speak as experts in other fields, too - especially politics.

IMO he falls into this category plus he did not seem like a very nice person. I thought he was quite rude to that Viet vet who called up to state his views on the slated CPI change.

Also, he (Sills) seemed rude to Jim who is one of my favorite people (Chris, too, of course)

"Playing music is a wonderful opportunity for young people to experience self-expression and greater self-esteem. In addition, playing music with other people offers a unique way to communicate outside the boundaries of words and ideas. A person’s heritage, ethnic origin or situation in life don’t come up with you’re creating music together." Furthermore, studies have shown that the creative learning process in music and arts programs fosters an enhanced ability to learn traditional curriculum. Students who have this kind of experience average 50 points higher on SAT scores than students who have not.

Existing music programs for children have been hurt and new programs discouraged by the recent cutbacks in government funding. They desperately need assistance, both with funding and with promotion and public outreach. Our project will particularly focus on programs in poor areas that have been especially affected.

We will work closely with the Tides Center and other local community organizations as well as an outstanding, working Board of Advisors to help in any way we can to ensure quality music programs are available to any children who are interested in embracing the creative spirit."

Mon Apr 8, 2013, 01:01 PM
Apr 2013

Press briefing:

Q Speaking of revenue, as you know, the President has this inflation-adjustment proposal in this plan. Time and again, the President has said that he would not raise taxes on the middle class. One of the effects of that so-called chained CPI inflation adjustment is that it kicks people into higher tax brackets faster. That’s an impact on the middle class. Isn’t that an increase on the middle class, and is the President backtracking on this --

MR. CARNEY: Well, let’s be clear, this is a technical adjustment to the so-called CPI -- called chained CPI that has been advocated by Republicans, that Mitch McConnell asked for in a letter that he presented during the negotiations over these budget issues. The offer that the President made to Speaker Boehner, and which is incorporated in the President’s budget, is not the President’s ideal approach to our budget challenges, but it is a serious compromise proposition that demonstrates that he wants to get things done, that he believes that we in Washington ought to do the business of the American people by coming together and finding common ground.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2013/04/05/press-briefing-press-secretary-jay-carney-452013

But boner dismissed this out of hand.

I think I'll trust the President on this for now. He's calling their bluff.

Mon Apr 8, 2013, 05:05 PM
Apr 2013

Let's make every assumption favorable to Obama -- that he's brilliantly calling their bluff, that nothing will come of this because they won't accept any deal, but that anyone who studies the whole episode will conclude that the Republicans are a bunch of hypocrites bent only on obstruction.

So what?

Anyone who's going to trouble to study the facts knows that already. What millions of voters will hear in 2014 is that "the Democrats" (through the leader of their party) tried to cut Social Security but the Republicans protected it.

You say that, in light of McConnell's letter, no one could make that argument with a straight face, and no one with two functioning brain cells to rub together could fall for it? Go look at the polling results about how many people think Obama was born in Kenya, or how many credited Romney for bin Laden's death, or how many blamed the (nonexistent organization) ACORN for voter fraud that re-elected Obama.

Obama should have learned by now that he needs to be much more willing to get into a confrontation. Carney says this budget "is not the President’s ideal approach"? Well, dammit, let him send up a budget that is his ideal approach, and see if the Republicans propose an amendment to cut Social Security.

Stills has been supporting Democratic causes for years and he's not entitled to his opinion, particularly when he's responding to questions during an interview???????

Wow, just wow..........

Better yet, how about televising live all the negotiations between Obama and the Republicans? After all, Obama promised "transparency in government".

Now, watch this, you guys! I'm holding crap in my hand, but I'm going to pretend I have something great, so you'll all fold and let me rake in this pot, small as it is.

I see those guys do that all the time...you bet.

If he is bluffing, and I did say "if," how do you bluff and tell people you're bluffing at the same time? Can you explain that?

Mon Apr 8, 2013, 02:51 PM

I didn't, because I have no idea. If it is a bluff, it's sure fooled a lot of people on DU. If it's not, more's the pity.

We shall see, I suppose, one way or another.

The thing with a poker, its' always pretty clear when you win. Winning is the goal, not being a successful bluffer.

Presumably, even the dumbass Repubs could figure it out...if it is "just a maneuver."

Or, if it is "just a maneuver" who is he trying to bluff. The American people?

Mon Apr 8, 2013, 02:32 PM
Apr 2013

There's something happening here,
What it is ain't exactly clear.
There's a man with a gun over there,
Telling me I've got to beware.

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down.

There's battle lines being drawn,
And nobody's right if everybody's wrong.
Young people speaking there minds,
And getting so much resistance from behind.

It's time we stop, hey what's that sound,
Everybody look what's going down.

What a field day for the heat,
A thousand people in the street.
Singing songs and a carrying signs,
Mostly saying hooray for our side.

It's time we stop, hey what's that sound,
Everybody look what's going down.

Paranoia strikes deep,
Into your life it will creep.
It starts when you're always afraid,
Step out of line, the men come and take you away.

We better stop, hey what's that sound,
Everybody look what's going down.(repeat until fade)

it was about a bunch of spoiled teenagers who wanted to create a ruckus all night with their goofballs and reefers.

then the cops told them: "no, go home and come back tomorrow."

and all these kids from the suburbs said, "Like, wow, man, that isn't groovy."

then stephen stills wrote that song.

Mon Apr 8, 2013, 03:55 PM

in 1988.

Yeah, it shocked me too.

Neil is no conservative.

So when anyone is attacking Neil or Stills, just remember, we all make mistakes. And those mistakes don't necessarily define -- or undermine -- a lifetime devoted to the right causes.

I was so shocked I even remember WHERE I heard it ... I was coming out of a Burger King parking lot, had turned on a rock station, and there was Neil Young himself talking about supporting George HW Bush for president.

I couldn't believe my ears.

I know Neil Young is no conservative. But I have no idea what was going on in his life back in the late 80s that would lead him astray.

But in the 90s and since, he found his way back.

You apparently know nothing about my generation, nothing.

I read through this thread and see a person who exists to stir trouble -- doesn't matter what anyone says to you, doesn't matter what the facts are, as for Stephen Sills it doesn't matter that he puts his money where his mouth is regarding helping kids and Dems, none of that matters because you have a smartass answer for it all, relying on slurs and dirt to upset people and when they react you either gloat that you got a reaction or play the victim.

How do you live inside that head?

And oh yeah I have known people like that in real life.
