I thought I would never say this: Kid Rock you are awesome!

AND AMAZING DEALS FOR FANS

Kid Rock is breaking all the rules with the announcement of his U.S. Summer tour by offering tickets in all sections (reserved seats and lawn) at an affordable $20 price point, using paperless tickets where possible, and lowering prices on everything from parking to beer to merchandise for every show in every city. Kid Rock and his Twisted Brown Trucker Band will perform under the stars in amphitheaters this summer, beginning June 28 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia through September 15 at the Live Nation Amphitheatre in Tampa, Florida. The tour, promoted by Live Nation, includes threespecial shows at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Kid Rock's hometown of Detroit, Michigan. Kool & The Gang, ZZ Top, and Uncle Kracker are confirmed as support on select dates. Tickets go on sale to the public in select markets beginning April 12 on LiveNation.com.

In addition to the low ticket price, Kid Rock is going beyond the extra mile for his fans. In a first for a Kid Rock tour, participating Walmart locations will offer all-in $20 tickets: no fees, no parking charges, nada. Kid Rock is reserving the first two rows for every show as free upgrades for lucky fans who will be selected at random. Special $4 draught beers, value food packages, cheaper parking (where possible), free samples of Jimmy John's sandwiches at select venues, free coffee at the end of the show, and $20 tour t-shirts will be available as well. As an additional method to combat scalping, Kid Rock will be releasing 1000 tickets from each show directly as Platinum Tickets via LiveNation.com. As some of the best seats in the house, Platinum Tickets are market priced tickets.

The fact that Kid Rock is famous and wealthy is a major indication that either music needs to try harder or American music fans need to get out more.

Perry Farrell confirmed this in a documentary I recently watched. He said something to the effect that around 1994-1995, the recording industry looked at all of the drug/crime/lineup problem/suicide issues their rock bands were having and finally said "No more freaks, no more headaches". We're just going to give this little girl or boy from Disney a pop song and that will be it. That will be how we make money.

During 1980-1993, there was at least a groundswell of underground rock artists that were somewhat available to alleviate the horridity belched out by the Michael Jacksons, Gerardos, Bon Jovis, Vanilla Ices and various Madonna-bes of the world. They were developed by their labels over time and some, like Faith No More, Jane's Addiction and Metallica, went on to success and touring shows and for a while, things started to look up.

But sometime after that, the music industry just abandoned all experimentation & new artist development and only cared about formulaic hard rock, lousy hip hop like Diddy, Nashville Country Music Factory crap and teen pop. Now if you want good stuff, you really have to dig for it, because labels aren't signing that artist.

I don't worry about who is derived from who, because that way madness lies, and the fetishization of novelty leaves me cold. Not saying that you do that, but I've seen that discussion many times here on DU.

Lady Gaga apparently puts on a good show, and if it's entertaining without harming anyone, I'm content. I also like her politics, as you note, which give her a strong advantage over Kid Rock from the get-go.

I should disclaim, however, that I don't actually own any of her music, so...

The problem with the common people is, they are so effing COMMON! The things those unsophisticated hicks like, such as football and NASCAR and Nickleback and Cheeseburgers is disgusting.

it's nice that the tickets are cheap - but it doesn't make up for the jingoism.

Prince is coming to Seattle, and his show is a reasonable $250/ticket.
