Some DUers' lack of cognitive dissonance over Obama is making others upset

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Autumn (a host of the General Discussion forum).

Most, if not all of us, like the man Barack Obama. How some react to his policy choices, however, is upsetting others and turning this place a cuckoo's nest at the moment.

Belief: I believe Barack Obama is a great man
Action: I'm angrily protesting Obama's disappointing policy

Within this group, some will neither change its belief nor its action as both can co-exist.

On the other hand, there are those, it appears, that simply find this an impossible stance (for it's never happened to them!) and are resorting to demonizing the others -- "You all just hate the man! You're all disgusting!"

It blows my mind. Talk about cognitive dissonance.

Saying that Obama has ALWAYS been against us and is a tool of corporations blows my mind, too.

Saying 'I give up' especially blows my mind. Giving up is something that should be done quietly from embarrassment, not publicly proclaimed in the hopes of influencing others.

This is only a partial list of victories and endeavors so far.

Pushing for gay rights.
Pushing for gun control.
Covering pre-existing medical conditions.
Covering contraception.
Expanding Medicaid coverage.
Pushing for equitable taxation.
Pushing for immigration reform.
Violence Against Women Act.
Lily Ledbetter Act.

Giving up would not have gotten us this far.

It is NOT enough. But to say that Obama is against us is a wild mis-reading of reality.

but only to a point.

"On the other hand, there are those, it appears, that simply find this an impossible stance (for it's never happened to them!) and are resorting to demonizing the others -- "You all just hate the man! You're all disgusting!"

On the other OTHER hand, there are those who resort to demonizing others by labeling anyone who disagrees with them as Third Wayers, Conservadems, Republican-lite, etc., along with calling them stupid, ignorant of the facts, and so on.

According to MANY people here, there are only two kinds of posters on DU: Those who disagree with Obama's 'policies', and those who worship the ground he walks on and refuse to budge from their idol-worship.

They make no allowance for those who support Obama simply because they support his policies. No, according to some, there is no such animal. You're either a mindless cheerleader or you're a savvy, in-the-know, detractor.

There are some here who truly do hate the man. They're the ones who call him a Manchurian Candidate, a closet Republican, a 'ho', a laying jackass, a corporatist, a water-carrier for the right wing, etc.

Now, honestly, does that sound like an expression of mere "disagreement on policy" to you? To me, it sounds like name-calling aimed at the man, not his policies.

I don't subscribe to what you say, there. Name calling per se does not equate to hatred. And not all negatively descriptive words equate to hatred. This point, however, we may not agree upon.
