(17,344 posts)declare herself an Independent and caucus with the Dems. If I were Schumer, I would be having serious talks with her about doing that. The majority has perks that can help her get re-elected. I'd be courting Collins, too.

(17,344 posts)The Murkowskis have been powers in Alaska for years. She won as a write-in candidate for pete's sake. I understand lots of people like to use presidential voting as an indicator, but it's not. Voters can and do split tickets (see Maine). AFAIK, Murkowski is well-known as an independent thinker. Voters care about who can bring home the bacon. For at least the next two years, her chances of doing that are better being with the majority than the minority.
