A scary look into the mind of a Paul supporter (typed verbatim, unedited) . . .

Me on FB, regarding Ron Paul:

A career politician who's a Republican, an Economic Darwinist, a social safety net destroyer, anti-choicer, anti-human rights, proudly displays photos of him with the man who tossed America's economic future off of a cliff (Reagan), a states rights guy (gee, what do I tell Oklahoma's gay people and women? "Move"??) and would make life far easier for corporations and the rich than it already is, despite people believing the contrary? No thanks.

He doesn't gel with my values. I can't slit poor people's throats in cold blood and concede this nation to the neo-fascists. It'd be a defunded, crime-rampant free-for-all run by the likes of Oathkeepers, corporate "persons" and birfers.

But hey, if weed becomes legal, I bet that will all be worth it . . .

Paul supporter on FB (XXX is me, nothing has been altered):

career politician?(was out of congress over a decade delivering babues)Clinton ran the economic future over a cliff I don't live in Oklahoma not my problem. If you mean make life easier by forcing them to compete instead of Bailouts(your boy Obammie and George Jr)Sorry XXX Your wrong on the poor people (thats Mittens)maybe you should do a lil more research on the republican there XXX he continuously puts down the neocons ans wants to eventually end the federal reserve and I guess sending troops home is the same as slitting there throat????you talk about being poor like you know what it's like well I do first hand and I have busted my tail to get what I want I don't want big brother telling me what I can do where and when i can go if thats your thing and you want to keep listening to the mainstream neocon oligarchy driven beats to the rhyme then enjoy sorry your little 5 minute disertation from the main media ain't right wanna know what the man really stands for and be the "smart guy " you act like on here I challenge you on an intellectual level feel free to check out ronpaul2012.com Neocon indeed!!!

Oh, and he said he'll be back.

Great. Can't wait.

What do I do with that?

The "neocon" part reflects the isolationist parts of Paul's line, plus mixing in a bit of the "neocon=Jews" meme that the neocons use to call their critics anti-semites, except here it is embraced rather than hurled.

"oligarchy" is "the establishment", or at least the Paulite hallucination of it, where it is run by George Soros and rich (add "Hollywood" to taste) liberals, thanks to their swarthy army of handout recipients.

No punctuation. No capital letters, even where they belong. A bizarre stream of consciousness regurgitation of "facts" that support his narrow world view, even when they make no sense.

I also don't believe he was ever truly poor. That's such a convenient little card to play.

I find Paulbots are, in general, are people with anger issues and deep wounds caused by another... somehow, someone screwed them over or they feel they were screwed out of something or they are living in la, la land and think "freedom" with 7 billion other people's and no social order will work out just fine... How many communes are around today? Not everyone has a set of internal values... Our 1% are out of control and need major reigning in. I mean look at that psychopath or sociopath Mitt Romney... He's seriously not like normal people. We want him to have less regulation than he currently has. What's next, putting his wife and kids up on the roof? LOL!

Sat Feb 4, 2012, 01:42 PM

both are anti-state but their fundamental motivations are polar opposite

Anarchists oppose the state because it is a weapon of the wealthy that opresses the poor

Libertarians oppose the state because the poor try to use state powers to obtain justice from the wealthy

Libertarians would use privately-funded security forces to shut down the communes set up by anarchists

Uh, he was defeated in 1984 in a primary while running for the US Senate. Then he started some kind of newsletter/political group which made $940,000 in 1992, employing Paul, his family, and his former Chief of Staff.

Then he ran for President as a Libertarian in 1988.

Then he ran for Congress again, and is in his 8th term, not counting his previous 3.5 terms.

No, sorry, that is a career. A career sorta derailed by some defeats, but a career nonetheless.

At least if Wiki is accurate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Paul

He was absent from congress from 1989 to 1995 to resume his medical practice. That's not even seven years.

And yes, three presidential runs (would have been four, but he decided not to run in 1992) and all of those congressional terms . . . thaaaaaaat's a career if I've ever seen one.

It's amazing what people will believe when they put their faith in an authority figure.

I'm ahead of the game by deciding that my time is better spent NOT doing needless dissertation trading with an isolationist born again that is in serious need of basic grammatical review and feels he has to insult to get his point across.

As I see it, you have a couple of choices. You could just ignore them -- probably safest as they are obviously unhinged. Or, my favorite tactic in such situations: laughter is the best medicine. In this case, I'd take it a step further and move on to ridicule.

e.g.: "delivering babues". What's a babue? Did they mean babushka? But that means Ron Paul is a secret Communist!

30. Libertarians
Sat Feb 4, 2012, 12:49 PM
Feb 2012

Read Robert Heinlein if you want an idea of the Libertarian ideal world view. Mostly it comes down to:

1. The state is evil. It robs from the hard working independent (white) man in order to fund the lazy, apathetic, no-account lower classes, most of them minorities that pay no taxes, and it prevents those who are willing to work from reaching their full potential.
2. Individualism trumps everything - collective action only works when the collective is given direction by the superior individual.
3. The Noble Individual - the noble individual is superior to his peers, and is recognized as such based upon his prowess, his wealth or his standing in society. At the same time, he is outside of that society, the brooding lone wolf, the trailblazing pioneer.
4. Libertarian women ... should be independent, but stand by their man.
5. Government is a tool of the banks to suppress the liberty of man, and government has been infiltrating corporations. The black helicopters (drones) are just over the horizon.
6. Compassion has no place in economics. Social Darwinism rules all.

It's a very paranoid, self-centered world view that plays to superhero fantasies, and its perhaps not surprising that there's a large chunk of libertarians that are emotionally about 15, when this kind of thinking tends to be dominant. It differs from the religious meme primarily in the fact that it tends to discount the role of religion in the equation, whereas the religious fundamentalist believes that their superior qualities emerge from being an elect of God.

"noble spirits".

What we think of as traditional Republicans as well as the Turd Way Democrats aspire to is more like Fascism where the state and capital are merged into one entity, each reenforcing the other and kettling the population.

Both are atrocities but feudalisim has a tried and true fix, even when given full sway. The Fascist were more dangerous and were relatively nipped in the bud, at an incredible cost.

42. the problem they have with the state isn't power
Sat Feb 4, 2012, 05:19 PM
Feb 2012

their problem is that the state tries to enforce accountability

They complain about slow, inefficient regulatory processes hindering the efficient private sector - they do not want to be held accountable to the laws.

They complain about the wheeling and dealing of the legislature - they do not want to be held accountable to elected representatives trying to forge a consensus around the differing desires of their constituents

They complain about judicial activism - the want to bypass checks and balances

What "libertarians" want is the ability of the elite to snap their fingers and "get it done"

This is the dream of every dictator
