My last thread
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022683943
was locked, allegedly because of spreading CT and CT sources. I didn't say "the government did it." Is ist a CT to ask for the possibility that the bombs were linked to eventual exercises, in whatever way? To point to the possibility that - for instance - right-wing extremists might have infiltrated Boston police? One guy to replace harmless exercise stuff by sharp munition would be sufficient.
If THESE questions are not allowed - I begin to doubt that I'm here at the DEMOCRATIC Underground.
Back to the topic.
"A third explosion was heard about an hour after the first two after authorities warned spectators to expect a loud noise from a water cannon that police apparently were using to destroy one of the devices. "

This sound quite specific (water cannon etc.), and it confirms the Boston Globe Tweet
Officials: There will be a controlled explosion opposite the library within one minute as part of bomb squad activities.

There's only the question left: the JFK library or the Boston Public library? According to reports, there was no Conrtolled Demolition of a device at the JFK library. This leaves the Public library, which is right at the place of the bombs, as the remaining possibility.

This item was brought to explosion, according to the source in my OP. In the beginning official sources confirmed a third explosion, but at JFK library. But by now we know that there was no explosion at the JFK library, nor specialists dismantling a bomb.
Officials now say there were no more explosive devices found. Okay. But the third - small, controlled - explosion opposite the Public library is not mentioned. It is not denied, but it looks like fading into oblivion.

(68,868 posts)After a bombing, they will typically detonate/destroy any abandoned box or bag out of precaution if there's the slightest concern it could be a bomb.

(708 posts)This is, I would guess, the most common method of bomb disposal. They even have special devices for doing just that:

This particular bomb disposal unit is with the Kingsport, Tennessee police department. There are a number of different types, shapes, and sizes of bomb disposal units, but the idea is still the same: to have the explosion occur in a controlled environment so that bystanders don't get hurt.
We know that the police/FBI/BATF/whoever was finding unexploded bombs after the initial two went off, so it should not be at all surprising to find out that they detonated one in order to make sure more people didn't get hurt.

(708 posts)There are no bomb-dismantling robots out there. There are bomb-destroying robots to be had.

(26,117 posts)Sorry, but this doesn't meet the criteria for GD. It's a conspiracy theory, and it's whining about DU.
