Such a sad day for Boston.
I found out when I went to work today, friends that work on Boylston Street, were close to one of the blasts the windows on the second and third floor were blown out. It was pure luck that no one was near the windows at the time, they always watch the marathon. They all escaped out the back, without keys, phones or money. They were lucky to get shelter at a co worker's home.
So many at work had a loved one there. One of my co workers. Her son worked with one of the victims. He was the one that had to tell his co workers that she had died. Wherever you go, there are people with a story to be told.
Everyone is walking around shell shocked, just like after 9/11.
As for Boston MedFlight, the only ones allowed in the air yesterday, they are a critical care transport. A while back they were the ones that airlifted a beloved member of my family to an area hospital. Their team saved his life, he was unresponsive when they picked him up, their skills and quick thinking saved him. As I know they did for many yesterday. Kudos to them and all the trained and untrained souls that rushed to aid of those that had fallen.
A sweet celebration for Boston turned deadly. We celebrate the athletes for their strength, stamina and heart, just like we celebrate Patriots Day. People from all over the world come here to celebrate. It has always been a proud day for us.
I'll tell you one thing, Boston won't stop running. They will continue to run to celebrate life. They will also continue to run towards danger when need be, to put themselves in harms way, without a second thought.
That's the spirit of Boston, we are strong and we are resilient.
Boston I love you.

(297,029 posts)Glad your friends weren't hurt and so sad for the ones who were mortally wounded and severely so.
So grateful for the First Responders and citizens who were on the scene to come to the aid of the victims. "Our Mission Your Life"
The stories of people there running toward the explosions not away tells what your city is all about.
A Mighty Hug for Boston and for you, She.

BOSTON MEDFLIGHT STATEMENT:
As the President said yesterday, Boston police, firefighters, and first responders, as well as the National Guard, responded heroically. We join him in saluting those on the ground and in the Boston hospitals who responded so quickly and professionally to yesterdays tragedy and who continue their work today.
While there are airspace restrictions over Boston, Boston MedFlight is still fully operational. Through our close collaboration with federal and local agencies, Boston MedFlight helicopters are permitted to fly into the restricted area and to all of the Boston hospitals, and did so overnight. Our ground and fixed wing critical care teams are also available.

(83,708 posts)No question about it, you fall in the Charles River, tetanus shot required. Beautiful though!
My grandparents use to take me on the swan boats. I loved sailing with the swans!
Thanks for the video, freshwest. Loved it!

(1,805 posts)I haven't heard that song in years - classic! Lovers, fuggers and thieves.
I had to go to Providence for work one year so I paid for my husband to go so we could leave early and check out Boston. We had a great time. (Okay, so the drivers are a bit impatient....and I thought LA was bad)! You gotta book it on the crosswalks, people seem to love their horns!
And the tunnel from the airport to town was a bit claustrophobic, but other than that it was too much fun. Damn, so much history! We saw kids and their teachers walking around pointing out the cool stuff. For SURE I would have loved history class more if you actually SEE it! A cemetery would just pop up on some street corner. Amazing.
We had a rental car, but ditched it. Walking around is by far the best way to see a city. If it's walkable.....LA is not! I'd love to go back someday, but sadly health shit prevents that. At least I could say we did go when we had the chance.
