Let 'em keep and bear arms. Just without ammunition.

(54,770 posts)You mean the one adopted by every member of SCOTUS, the President, and nearly every constitutional scholar in the US? Everyone has realized (except the far fringe) that if it was supposed to mean what the pretenders said it means it would have been written, " A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the militia to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." But of coarse it doesn't and that is why virtually nobody who matters is carrying that water..

Once the Democrats take the House and increase their majority in the Senate, they should do so. I would suggest at the rate of five to ten dollars per round on every bullet sold for civilian use, the tax to be targeted at the calibers .32-.45 ACP (handgun rounds); and .223 -.308 (assault weapon rounds). .50 caliber rounds for that infamous "sniper rifle" that should be outlawed EVERYWHERE should be imposed at the rate of $1,000 per round.
Common hunting rounds would garner exemptions, based on hunting seasons in the various states.
Now, the sheer hysteria our "pro gun progressives"* exhibit at these suggestions every time I raise them in an OP or reply tells me that it is the possibility of this - taxing the NRA gun nut crowd out of the price range of indulging their deadly little hobby - that they would be quite effective. And it is certainly constitutional and otherwise legal for Congress to do every bit of precisely what I recommend.

(1,273 posts)I mean, people can and do hunt with .223 and .308. Even so, why exempt hunting rounds? Are they incapable of being fired at children? Do they bounce off?
It's this kind of illogic that dooms the gun control efforts. You can't ban/tax "assault" rounds and have people think you'll leave "hunting" ammo alone after some mass shooter kills a bunch of people with "hunting" ammo. So the hunters and everyone with a gun opposes the effort because it makes no sense.

(12,751 posts)So readily confirmed: all too easy.
"It's this kind of illogic that dooms the gun control efforts"
Then why are you concerned about it?
Funny stuff.

Next up: more insistence that the replier is "not worried" even as he continues to not act like it.

(16,038 posts)Ammunition is by definition "arms". This (funny when Chris Rock said it) idea will pass right after a poll tax passes to discourage all of those undesirable voters who always muck shit up, eh? You guys are so optimistic..maybe Chris should read here for a while...there surely is some material he could use in this thread..

(1,276 posts)You think Congress is gonna vote to stop people from getting bullets when we can't even get them to pass a background check? That's really funny.

(143 posts)Gun Owning Death Cult members are single issue voters.
These defeats could lay the groundwork for electoral changes in the midterms if advocacy groups and the media give it the attention it deserves.

(114,904 posts)Most gun owners are with me.
I come from rednecks. I notice they keep everything locked up in a safe. That they admit they don't need some of their toys. Have no use for 30 round clips, could easily get by with 10 and only use that for fun.
Recognize that safety concerns are legitimate and do not fear reasonable regulation.
You're in the death cult if you are in leadership of a gun advocacy organization, run an arms mfg, or think the 2nd ammendment is absolute and unlimited.
Make no mistake a large majority of gun owners are not the problem at all. I don't want to mess with them. I want to work with them.

(4,840 posts)Is to perfect a non-lethal weapon as close to 100% effective at stopping an assailant. If gun rights proponents are really all about self defense, they will be happy with such an alternative defense weapon and allow lethal weapons to be regulated.
