He saw the man run toward the back of the house. His mother was unlocking the rear door at the same time. Wood's son told police he heard his mother talking to the man but couldnt understand their conversation...(T)he man pulled out a knife. He swung the blade and sliced into the right side of Wood's neck.
Wood started speaking to the man about Bible verses and church, Stafford said. (She) didnt call 911 until 10:24 p.m., after the attacker left...

According to this followup story, Wood ended up with close to two dozen stitches. I don't know what I find more unlikely -- that for an hour, the mother was able to talk while bleeding, or that for an hour, the son did absolutely nothing.
I hope this isn't a actually a case of her being attacked by a punk kid who was tired of living the religious life, and her trying to cover it up in the name of "forgiveness."

(46,416 posts)Every single part of it, weird and stupid. Why did the teen son get down on his hands and knees for an hour? Why did the attacker turn on the outside water spigot before he left? Why did this nimrod blather about God for an hour? Bizarre.

Why the heck do we care about the color of this guy's shirt, or the color of the flags? Are odd details like that supposed to confer authenticity?
But the "teenaged" son could be a mere child of 13. Some five year olds know to call 911, but a small young kid might not know what to do in a strange, frightening situation.

The main point is she LIVED -- Can't you get away from your hatred of anything containing
any sort of religious reference long enough to CELEBRATE that fact?!?

(39,961 posts)Nothing odd here, right. People just "Over" thinking. Who the heck ever "Over" thought a good decision? Have mercy. Please don't ever accuse me of joining the "don't think too much" brigade.

It's like they thing critical thinking is jumping into a pond with cold water.
Well, dive in and start thinking.

(29,067 posts)Would I be quoting bible versus while I bled -- No, and Hell No,
but she may have appealed to this particular creep's conscience, who knows?
I actually DID hear of a story way back, in which a young woman in a remote place was approached
by a would be rapist. She was so scared, she fell down on her knees and started saying The Lord's Prayer.
For whatever reasons, this seemed to bring the man to his senses...He did a complete turnaround.
he apologized profusely, professed his shame, and even offered her
money (which she refused) to "make amends", if you will.
I'm sure it wouldn't work with everyone, but you know what they say -- Go with your gut.
Schema Thing
(10,283 posts)in fact, I think the same story often makes the rounds, with slight changes, in many sects.
it's most likely all just bullshit to start with.
whathehell
(29,067 posts)and I think it should have been clear that the point of it was not
"the power of prayer", if you will, but simply that certain things -- and
they needn't be religious -- can trigger the consciences of certain people.
It might be helpful if we could stop the knee-jerk response to "dismiss" when the very word "religion" is mentioned,
regardless of context.

Be well.

Police charged two teens in the throat-slashing attack on a Shelby mother...That attacker, police say, was 16-year-old Miguel Lopez...They also arrested Woods son but havent released his name because he is only 15.
Shelby police did release the charges against the 15-year-old: Conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder...Lopez...faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, secret assault and first-degree kidnapping.
Faye Cooke, who lives across the street from Wood...said she saw a gang symbol carved on Woods red car...a six-pointed star. Shelby police stated in their press release Wednesday that the crime doesnt appear to be gang-related...(They have) handed the case to the district attorneys office for prosecution...

(169 posts)I am wondering if the son was the one that did the stabbing and both of them made up the story and blamed Miguel Lopez for it. Something is fishy here..
