(37,305 posts)I saw it before the scanner named him.
I felt it was to tragic to post. I was hoping it wasn't him.

(5,186 posts)And, while the Tripathi clan's crisis is undeniably sad, a five-state all out manhunt for an emotionally disturbed, underweight youth who "always wears three winter coats" and has a history of mental illness frankly isn't merited.
That such a mindbogglingly humongous search effort now also includes the supremely pricey services of the taxpayer-funded Federal Bureau of Investigations is also objectionable. Especially considering the unlimited financial assets the Tripathis have at their disposal for conducting this mission on their own, and that those resources should obviously have been spent on getting their troubled son treatment before he pulled a Houdini on them.

(69,014 posts)Article is insisting that society has no interest in the treatment of depressed rich boys. You know, like Osama bin Ladin.

(5,186 posts)Some families find mental illness "shameful". I know mine certainly did.
Although I was far from rich you just didn't talk about it or even acknowledge it.

(106,211 posts)and it's pretty disingenuous of you to say that it does. It says one possibility is suicide, that would have been "highly-publicized".
Why did you feel the need to add to the hysteria?
ForgoTheConsequence
(5,186 posts)One was right on the money. I'll add a question mark if that shuts you up. As for the hysteria, me posting on a forum is a drop of rain in the ocean that is a shitty mainstream American media.

the police have released two names and one of them is the missing brown student.

K&R ForgoTheConsequence, I appreciate the insight this article provides into Sunil and his family that may not get picked up in other media.

(5,186 posts)I hadn't thought about it in the regard. Personally I think the FBI have an incredibly hard job of filtering though information.

(46,416 posts)Why was he so invested in the search? My theory is, if there's any question as to why the search involved 5 states and the FBI and was a big deal, it's because maybe the family told law enforcement (or they discovered in a computer search) that their son had been recruited by some bad element, like AQ or something similar. That would sure get the FBI on it--but wouldn't have been made public, perhaps.

(5,186 posts)Apparently its well known but I hadn't heard of it.

(7,822 posts)It may well turn out he has more in common with the Sandy Hook or Columbine killers than what we think of as more "traditional" terrorists, foreign or domestic.

(3,466 posts)the family knew this kid was hanging with dangerous people, plus this cryptic note he left. The FBI somehow got wind of this missing kid, perhaps his family even called them. Meanwhile they all put out this missing kid ruse to cover the fact the FBI is on a man hunt for a potential terrorist. They've known all along this kid was one of the bombers, and pit out the photos today to spooky him, flush him out.

(10,412 posts)ABC has had tape and photos and information from his American family that he was missing from Brown.
And they've had video since March: "Sunil Tripathi: New Video in Missing Ivy League Student Case"
