It doesn't matter how serious or minor the perceived infraction may be or whether or not the citzen is clearly in the wrong. And if it turns out the individual is totally innocent they very seldom get an apology.

He had explosives taped to his chest. On edit: Now I hear it was strapped to himself. I don't know if that means under his shirt.

Not everyone gives a shit about being sodomized by a broom stick either, but I'm damn glad that Abner Louima got about $9 million for the inconvenience. You DO know that the cops really don't need you to stick up for them when they fuck up, right? They're big boys, they can handle it on their own.

The police are searching for someone who may have explosives strapped to his body. I don't know about you but if I was in their shoes, I'd want to make damned sure this guy wasn't a danger before questioning him.

I think some on DU really can't stomach the idea that the authorities are doing a damned fine job in this case.

And I do think that overall, the authorities ARE doing a really good job on this case. However, that's no excuse as to what was done to this guy. And I hope he'll be handsomely compensated for it.

As someone else said, the robo cops had no problems blocking the media from their activities during the peaceful, OWS protests. They ordered the media away, including news helicopters. It was awesome to watch, you could tell by the cut off of the major news media's livestreams when they were going to beat up a few ordinary citizens.

and I will give them a pass on it. At least the guy is alive and unharmed. It is the news media that should do damage control (put him on every station and publicly apologize to him).

Contrast how he was handled versus the two newspaper delivery woman and random black guy in a pick up who were shot in LA under tense but still less tense conditions. Except for letting the second suspect get away, I think the police in this case did a pretty good job showing restraint.

Which was the only other way he was going to be cleared.

I want to offer him money to borrow his picture for a dating site . . .

Frankly, the Boston police have been very professional. Compare this to the LA police when they had a high-profile fugitive.
