I have. Two times now, once was in the Summer on a strenuous hike up a steep cliff, and I ran out of water, started feeling nauseous and dizzy and weak, had to sit down, and then started throwing up. Luckily, a helpful stranger happened by and gave me some of his water, which was enough to allow me to make it back down the cliff. ( I like to think of him as a Guardian Angel, lol) And then more recently, I was feeling dizzy a couple months ago, and I just knew it was because of thirst. I drank some water, and *BAM*, I felt so much better. As Summer and warm weather draws closer, I am going to make sure to drink more water. Not pop or coca-cola, but just water. Its good for you.

(6,448 posts)Living where I do almost everyone carries a water bottle with them. With rescues of trapped hikers as a weekly event most folks have learned to have water and like you said no pop or soda.

I drink at least 3 big glasses a day, plus milk.

(7,768 posts)Found out through some education that you should start out your day every morning with a big ole' glass of water! First thing and every day! Then, drink water, just plain water all day long , even if you aren't necessarily thirsty. If you feel thirsty, dehydration has already begun.

(35,015 posts)I've been a yoga practitioner for awhile, but have never tried 'hot' yoga (room temp 100+). I spent the day drinking a lot of water, which didn't really prepare me for the intensity of the class and how I'd feel physically. I am not sure I'll ever do it again; I think I prefer coolness, pleasant surroundings and more difficult poses to struggling to do simple ones in horrid heat.
I was so thirsty afterwards AND the next day it was crazy...

I can't take this anymore. I think I am going to have to get more involved in food issues.

(23,867 posts)I took a nosedive for a number of years as a result of dehydration. I didn't even know I was until I had a nurse say my blood sample indicated dehyrdration.
Low glycemic foods.
Lots of water.
Exercise.

(34,845 posts)Don't just adhere to a set number of glasses or quarts or whatever. Just listen to your body and keep water handy for when it feels right to drink some.

(12,608 posts)Last summer just finishing a fund-raising ride-a-long and probably the hottest day in August we had, I nearly fell off my horse. Usually I drink a lot, but we'd run out quite a bit before the end. D'OH.
