General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAm I the only one who thinks of the German military
era WWI or WWII when I see those Boston police hats?

Edit: This is not a comment about authoritarianism or anything like that. It's really just about the hat. I should probably have posted it in the lounge.

(57,780 posts)I don't see that at all. I've been struck by those odd hats for days.
Besides, the Boston PD lifted the stay in place request.
I appreciate your pointing out the other poster's rude behavior.

Without the leaves across the brim. That's the bit that seems odd.

Oh, you were talking about the chief's soft hat.
Oh, yes, we just talked about that today.
I was saying that the hats flapped down like that and the
cross-torso black belt that they wear in Phila make them look
like storm troopers. And some of the cops in patrol cars even
wear the knee-high boots. They're a scary sight when the
walk toward your car at night. I certainly don't want to piss them off.
This is a comment about the hard helmets
'Cept the German helmets curved outward at the bottom (I think)
They keep trying to perfect the style so that it offers the best protection.
I always wondered why they didn't protect the neck more but
I suppose that when you're in a prone position it would push the
helmet forward.
Probably, every little bend and twist in that design has a reason.
Until they come out with a better design.
Boy, you certainly drew a lot of flack for such a simple question didn't you.
Even when I say something nice in DU I just hunker down and wait for the
bullets to fly. Now, when I see the "My Posts" button light up I kind of have
to take a deep breath and see what I get. I look at it as skin-thickening practice.
Take a deep breath and keep on posting. Some of us like a good discussion.
Now, let's see what kind of shit I get for this!

I DID FIND some old Soviet officers hats that look kinda close...you think he has ties to Putin?
It's amazing how my stupidest threads get the most attention. Someone above pointed out the similarity with US WWII hats, like MacArthur. I must have had a war movie association.
