(130,533 posts)Maybe it was the perp, or maybe they were firing something like nonlethal beanbag rounds. They are not going to kill this guy unless he poses an imminent threat to the LEOs. They want him alive if possible.
If he does get killed I'm not going to waste a lot of kleenex crying over him. He murdered a little kid. Fuck him.

sorry, I don't care what someones done.. the bloodlust has to stop somewhere.
thank god MA is a no death penalty state (assuming he goes through the normal legal process and survives what hes going through now).
he deserves to be punished..
but an eye for an eye leaves the world blind :p
lets hope he survives whats going on so he can sit in jail for the rest of his life thinking about what he did... and how his life is gone..

(12,116 posts)and that's putting it mildly! He has a choice if he wants to live or die, he can surrender. The 8 yr old had no choice! Neither did his other victims including the ones that will never be able to walk on their own flesh and blood legs again. All I really meant was when you look at your 19 yr old, don 't even insult your child by comparing him or her to this monster. This thing deserves no sympathy.

It's funny, although not real funny but CNN refuses to mention his name. They are being real cautious. They keep calling the enclosed space he is in a structure but it could be a boat.
I heard they are using a stun gernade and want to take him alive. Or gas.
It sounds like the goal is to take him alive.

(7,822 posts)And to me it sounds like they are truly trying. But I will feel no sorrow if he dies. If that makes me a horrible person, so be it.
My heart has broken over and over these last few days. For so many people. The victims and their families, for the people of Boston, for the first responders and law enforcement. For innocent Muslims who will once again face the suspicion and hatred of strangers. For the innocent bystanders who found themselves under suspicion as these events unfolded. (Including the missing Brown Student and his poor family)
My heart broke for these two men's family. The older one leaves behind a wife and young child. The Uncle who showed so much pain and anger. The parents, who can't believe their sons could do this.
I wish I could feel some empathy for them. I think I'm just all cried out.

(23,272 posts)I don't expect him to make a sensible choice.
So he will most likely choose to die.
I feel more sorry for the LEO's who will have to suffer because they shot him.
I feel more sorry for the families this murderer killed.
I feel more sorry for the families this murdered maimed, tortured and permanently damaged.
I feel more sorry for us, because a joyous gathering like a marathon will never be the same.
Tsarnaev dying is not tragic. Its grotesque to believe he deserves our pity or concern. He's an adult making his own choices.
agent46
(1,262 posts)From what we already know about these two young men - their remarkable traumatic past, their exceptional intelligence, their arrival in the US during high school, access to money, the amateur way they (may have) carried out the bombing with no plan for escape or effort to conceal their own identities...
I'm thinking there's a lot more to this story. I think they are being used. By whom? I have no idea and personally favor no pet conspiracy theories. But if this story ends up the way they always seem to these days, the remaining living suspect will end up dead and the narrative will be controlled for propaganda purposes in the media.
Color me cynical. I hope I'm wrong though.

(97,624 posts)This whole week has been tragic.
Channel 5 is Breaking News that the GOAL of law enforcement is to take him alive. If he dies it will be his choice, a bad choice, as so many others he has made. I will not cry for him.
I will cry for those that wanted to live, yet died at his hands. I cry for Jeff Bauman, that had both legs blown off when a duffel bag was placed next to him. He had to have been about the same age as the murderer. He was saving to go to college. He had the fortitude to live and aid enforcement officers to identify these murderers.
He severely maimed so many, he did this cruelly and without a shred of remorse. He tore out Bostons heart in its grief.
I will not shed a tear for him. He does not deserve my compassion.

(2,367 posts)First, I don't believe in the death penalty as a whole... yes it makes me feel sick for the dead and injured and the families of the dead and injured - and is it wrong of me to feel worse for the injured and the families of the dead than the actual dead? Sounds like for the most part they never knew what hit em (even if one was a kid)...... The poor guy who lost not one but BOTH legs omg
But I want to know why he did it if him and his brother hatched this plot on their own.
And I want to know everything about the group they were involved with if there are other people involved in this.

(10,745 posts)Yeah, it IS true that he came from a dysfunctional family(something I can personally relate to, btw, though my situation isn't as bad), and was struggling in life, but to be be honest? So do many others, and most of them don't snap and blow people up; this guy and his even scummier brother did.
And one of the people who died was an 8-year-old kid, who will never know the joys of living ever again(though one can hope for a happy afterlife, at least).

We should all be hoping he is taken alive so he can stand trial, and we as fellow citizens can see the evidence against him and judge accordingly.
If he is in fact part of a terror cell, then taking him into custody could be an intelligence bonanza.

(25,053 posts)I give credit to the FBI for finding their photos and the quick search for them and find. It's a relief that the suspect is now in custody and will able to provide more information. But really? It turns out that a negotiator could have been brought in a lot sooner and there could have been less firefight considering he was one man against so much more artillery and men. This whole police procedure seemed more military oriented.
As glad as I am about the final outcome and we still don't know if he'll live to tell, I kept wondering about the whole procedure.
