He was charged with theft of property worth more than $50 and less than $500, a Class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $2,000 and 180 days behind bars.
Bryan police said around 8 p.m. Friday, employees of the H-E-B Grocery Store off Villa Maria saw the man walking past the checkout with a basket full of food.
The man had placed some of the food items into plastic bags he had brought inside, and when employees asked he could not tell which register he used for checkout, according to police reports

Not funny, somewhat crunchy, not a comment.

(11,304 posts)help working people who are struggling. Even churchs are having a hard time helping with their food supplies. We need to help people put food on their table.

(154,021 posts)For not being perfect could go a long way to solve this. No, not my opinion, the food channel program on this with Guarnescheli and Flay.

(11,304 posts)Grocery store and we watched them throw cakes and pies out. We could have taken them to the food kitchen. I asked why they wouldn't give it to us. They were worried about being sued.

(154,021 posts)It took work, and many, many, many legal forms, to send left overs at the end of the day. I bet they are not doing it anymore...food service was privatized.

(8,994 posts)I flipped burgers as a young kid myself, for years, in college. We never got sued nor heard of anyone who did. The bureaucracy and paperwork hit us before any news of lawsuits over bad food ever did.
The only lawsuits we heard of, came from the occasional person who got sick from BUYING our food up front.
What has happened to food donations from fast food places is analogous to stopping ALL automobile production because of one fatal traffic accident.

(5,185 posts)These stores throw away thousands of dollars worth of food a day. Then they throw someone to ground and have them arrested for hiding a carton of eggs under their shirt.

(154,021 posts)And yes, it is disgusting. The ammount of food left to rot and the food insecurity we have.

A line from a movie comes to mind. But seriously you do believe this shit is not happening today? That's a very serious question, to which I do not expect an answer...
Now let's go finf more crunchy sweets on the www.
MineralMan
(151,187 posts)Perhaps you can find a more timely example.
As for your plan to only post "sweets" on DU, you can certainly do that. I suppose it's safer, in any case.

FOOD, GROCERY AND FOOD DRIVES
Food and Grocery Donations
Each year the Feeding America network of member food banks distributes over three billion pounds of food and grocery products to hungry and needy Americans in communities across the country.
Whether you are interested in donating a truckload of onions, several pallets of close-to-code granola bars, a tote of frozen vegetables, a pallet of mixed and assorted dairy products, or 20 cases of shampoo, we ensure your donation reaches millions of Americans in need through our network of member food banks. Our members can transport dry, refrigerated, and frozen products of any quantity from your warehouse or plant.
Food banks routinely handle products deemed close-to-code, out of code with extended shelf-life recommendations, off spec, discontinued, seasonal, promotional, overage, etc.
If your company is interested in donating bulk food and/or groceries, please visit the Product Donations section for more information.
