(5,023 posts)I think it's doing congress unfair justice to simply assume they are in the NRA's pocket. While that may be true, there are a couple other factors A) Republicans are generally non-urban and gun violence is especially a problem in poor urban areas -- as long as they can keep the violence going in urban areas, they will continue to tout how much better they are. Heck they even exports guns to nations they wants to destabilize. It's what they do. and B) Fear. Given the option, it's the nature of politicians to keep people in fear of one another. As long as people are scared of one another the politicians have more control over us. That's not necessarily conscious on their part, just part of the sociopathic nature of most politicians. Blaming it all on the NRA probably is what they want us to do.

The attitude by Republicans every time there is a mass shooting is that it was an exception and isn't going to happen again so why in the hell do we need to change the laws for a one off incident?
They repeat this tactic EVERY TIME.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
