Note: The station is an NBC (not FOX) affiliate
We all make mistakes, A.J. Clemente tweeted.
Unfortunately, the young reporter will have to learn the hard way from his mistakes after he was fired for cursing in his debut as a TV news anchor.

Look, I used to work on-air at a radio station, and once exclamed "Jesus Christ!" into a hot mic. I wasn't fired, and neither should this young man be. I have already used the e-mail address at the top of this post to ask KFYR to give the kid another chance. Would you possibly consider doing likewise?

(25,592 posts)It is a very Republican, straight laced town. I lived there for 30 years. The guy is toast there. Best bet is to try Fargo if he wants to stay in ND.
When I worked there, they were Meyer Broadcasting Conmany. They had KFYR AM, FM and TV, plus TV stations in Dickinson, Minot and Williston and a translator in Glendive MT. And Bismarck-Mandan Cable TV, which was grandfathered in to the broadcast company.
KFYR AM (550 mz) covered 5 states and 3 Canadian provenances. The 5000 watt station went directional at night to protect a station in Missouri. Beamed most of their power North into the Arctic circle and past.
The secret to the great coverage was the transmitter towers were in a high spot of an always wet slough.

(34,179 posts)First of all, the guy just cost his station some big bucks. Unless things have radically changed, the station is going to get fined for his use of two of the seven dirty words(Jesus Christ isn't on that list). Furthermore, the guy isn't exactly a rookie, since the vast majority of TV folks had plenty of airtime at college stations, and should know to shut up when cued that their mic is going live. I don't think this guy was even paying attention to his cues, but rather looking down and examining his notes.
Hopefully he learns from this mistake.

(31,706 posts)...whenever you're in a studio assume the mikes are on.
Hopefully he'll do better at his next job in cable access...
I have a feeling the Tosh people have already gotten in touch with him

(1,237 posts)You can hear him say "gay" as they start the broadcast. I think he knew he just said "gay" into a live mic, panicked, and blurted out "fucking shit".

(139 posts)"I just want to say that I did not say the word gay, I was trying to pronounce the London Marathon winners name Tsegaye Kebede." - @ClementeAJ on Twitter.
Look, I don't know this guy, but how about giving him the benefit of the doubt?
