The actual target was to derail a train crossing the bridge over the Niagra River on the border.

I will become a true believer when Kim Jong-Un threatens to destroy Canada. After all they are a larger target therefore easier for their missiles to hit.

although this wasn't disclosed to Canadians until regular forces were sent to Kandahar the beginning of 2002.

they are a neighbor and ally to the United States... and generally share a similar culture. They have fought alongside the US and others against them... and some in AQ probably perceive they are vulnerable, rightly or wrongly.

The largely Shi'ite Iran hates the Saudi Al Qaeda movement and have imprisoned many members.

I've heard analyst after analyst on the radio wondering how Al Qaeda can support a worldwide terrorist operation from Iran.

Somebody's trying to mislead us, I think.

The region is near Iran's shared border with both Afghanistan and Pakistan and in the past Iran has been less than tolerant of the Sunni group. Kind of like how most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi but the SA government cracks down on AQ at every opportunity.
