(17,742 posts)You can always find those at a thrift store for a few bucks. I mean, if you're going to blow it up, why not get a used one?

(7,904 posts)Proving they bought the cookers is one more proverbial nail.

(18,705 posts)Maybe they needed a newer type model.
The new ones are supposed to be safer for cooking.

(36,974 posts)I remember when I was a little girl (40+ years ago) if she had something cooking in it she would always tell me to stay away from the stove because it could explode.
Years later when I was out on my own (and she didn't cook much anymore) she asked me if I wanted to take it home with me.
I said "NO Thank You - please throw it away!"
She had warned me so many times about how it could explode that I was scared to death of that pot!
I know that they make safer ones nowadays, but I still can not bring myself to purchase one.

(154,021 posts)She recently replaced it...after that old horse failed, not in an explosive fashion.
If I had to cook beans, I would, but I am mostly not a fan of a vessel that cooks under pressure.
They still, albeit rarely, fail in a spectacular way

(18,705 posts)We had just left the kitchen, and the damn thing blew.
The lid made a whole in a wall and hot chicken stew was everywhere.
It was loud.
You couldn't give me one now, no matter how safe.

(30,540 posts)remove some kind of valve off the top of it when it was thru. My grandmother would use a long metal barbeque type fork to remove that valve thing. I was scared of that pressure cooker, never wanted one and never have had one.

(19,089 posts)Macy's weekly advertisement featured pressure cookers, prominently, on sale for $19.95 ...
They were hammered on Facebook ... That ad ran nationally, and people were pissed ....
