Apr 2013

1. Corruption in government; we can't get anything accomplished as long as our politicians are bought and paid for. No prosecutions for Wall Street, no trials for the Bush administration, fining corporate CEOs instead of jailing them are just a few examples.

2. Lobbyist and corporations have more rights then living breathing humans; they hold all the cards when it comes to labor issues and all important issues that face this country; the environment, wars, wages, workplace safety, etc.

3. Wars, invasions, occupations, coup attempts, financing coups, drone attacks, supplying the world with weapons, training militaries, torture; the U.S. is creating 100's of new enemies everyday.

I put voting rights, fair election etc as the most important. In some respects this encompasses civil rights too.

2.Economy which includes support for health care and social program. The economy, I lump a bunch of things such as adequate revenues so their can be programs, Social Security etc.

3.Avoidance of war, while at the same time trying to keep our country safe. Which I think is a very realistic goal.

If I'm forced to choose only three.

I'd also add civil rights and massacre machines - and our being held hostage by them.

But for me, a woman's right to choose ranks first. On any list. Across the board. And non-negotiable. Any more than I'd push to start legislating the penis and scrotum and all personal matters thereof.

I consider the right to choose whether or not to bear a child in with health care. It is, for a woman, a health care issue.

For example, campaign finance reform is a huge issue for me. But right now there's basically nothing that can be done about it with the Supreme Court we have. Fortunately, Supreme Court justices don't spend all of eternity on the bench (though it can feel like it) and eventually we will have different ones. It's just something we're going to have to wait out.

Similarly gay rights is of huge importance to me right now, in particular, because historic gains have been made in the past several years and we're in a position to make even more gains on the issue. Now is the time when we CAN make a huge difference on that issue.

Abandoning for profit health insurance and moving to a single payer system.

I also want to see executive pay indexed to worker pay, a transaction tax on Wall Street, and a return to a progressive income tax structure, itself a disincentive to greed.

Thu Apr 25, 2013, 09:18 PM

my Number One issue is cleaning up the cesspit that the MSM has become.

The public perception of ALL important issues flows directly therefrom. Skewed information emanating from the MSM is responsible for people voting against their own interests, because those interests are invariably the subject of misleading information - and, more importantly, those spewing non-facts are permitted to do so in the interest of being "fair and balanced".

If what passes for 'journalism' these days was held to a higher standard that MUST be adhered to, the public would KNOW where their own interests truly lie.

Just one example: If the MSM accurately reported how universal healthcare works in every other nation that has embraced it, and challenged the RW version thereof, the public would not be merely discussing universal healthcare - they'd be DEMANDING it.
