I’m troubled about posting this, however …

As an agnostic, I find it uncomfortable to use the term “evil.” Nonetheless, I cannot seem to shake the concept that today’s Republican Party contains many people to whom I can find no word more fitting than “evil.”

A cancerous hatred and/or greed seem to infect many Republican politicians and their voters. Their Wall Streeters/their bankers/their (hypocritical) “Christians”/their bigots/their hopelessly ignorant, and so many more of their contingent, seem to be bent on the destruction of basic human decency – if not humanity itself.

And make no mistake about it. There are far too many Democrats, among others, who believe and behave as they do.

For all of humanity’s technological advancements, our sociological relationships are not far removed from that which existed when we first stepped out of caves. Our weaponry has made quantum leaps over the millennia, while our social interactions have remained stagnant. (Many thinkers have voiced this concept for centuries.)

But let me get to the point. Short of an ecological holocaust, I am of the opinion that today’s Republican Party is a clear and present danger to humanity. Many past empires have been responsible for countless deaths. But none had the power to destroy all human life on our planet

Is humanity suicidal? I don’t know. But I do know that we live in times far more dangerous than any that have gone before.

Agree, or disagree with what I’ve said here. But I’d like to hear your opinion.

to be ridiculed and scorned, but when they control two of the three main branches of the government of a superpower nation, they are not only a clear and present danger to this Republic, but humanity in general imo.

I would go even further and call them the party of Satan. They kill everything they touch. They are racist, bigots, anti American and homophobes. They spread excrement across the land. And the people who vote for them are no better.

And yes they are a threat to the planet. There should be a some way that we can divorce from these pieces of camel dung. Yet there is no practical way. It is like being locked in a room with a psychopath. Republicans have ABSOLUTELY no redeeming human value.

'Evil' not related to religion/religious belief, but to morality: profoundly immoral. I do not think 'morality' arises from religious belief. We can see, in fact, if we study history, that morality does NOT arise from religious belief, but from 'belief' in humanity.

Agnostic here, too.

And that is not a theological concept.

Others are easliy beguiled and others are willfully ignorant.

They think the end justifies the means when it comes to furthering their selfish agenda.

I know many conservatives, liberals, moderates, even hard core free market anarchists; they are good friends and family. They are not evil simply for committing the sin of disagreeing with me on effective tax rates, regulatory regimes, or even the designated hitter rule.

They justify their contempt for the poor and their hatred for gays by calling people irresponsible or sinful... they demean women as incapable of making moral choices on our own. They glorify the rich. And some of them are my relatives. When you try to reason with them they say "I DON'T WANT TO HEAR..." They really are not open to different opinions because it is too threatening. They don't want to watch any news channel except their own beloved Fox or go to any Church except their own, or talk to any people except the select few who reinforce their beliefs. They claim to care about children but they don't really give a damn about the environment or poor children or lots of other things that affect children.

Yeah, there is a big chunk of society that is sick in the head.

If it were not true. Republicans are perhaps the most indoctrinated into the idea that there is nothing in the path ahead to muck with their fantasy of rich lavish lifestyles. I don't know but I'm pessimistic. If we can't get our act together at this point with the climate crises moving towards the precipice and the population of earth soaring beyond the likely tipping point on several issues the future will not be a place where people will want to be.

Yes we will survive but only in a much different way. It is an age of change.

that is a no-brainer in my opinion. You don't have to be religious to see that. The republicans are doing a fine job of representing everything that is wrong and rotten and corrupt about humanity.

19. Criminality has risen to great power in the U.S. and the world
Tue Feb 7, 2012, 03:00 AM
Feb 2012

It is an era of evil as George Soros said the other day in an interview. Massive propaganda lies are the norm and are so well rehearsed over the last 100 years that many people don't even know what the truth is anymore. Even worse, many people who do know how evil today's world is are too comfortable with the status quo to dare even speak about the corruption that surrounds us.

As a women in Greece said last year "I feel my generation has betrayed our children as we traded civility for corruption". That's exactly what's happened as lying criminals are now in many positions of power in the U.S.. We've got torture camp creators out on book tours and plastered all over the covers of AARP magazine like they are some kind of senior idols to be looked up to.

This will likely end as other eras of evil have, with numerous revolutions that encompass the world. In fact, it's already started.
