(1,695 posts)I think not. And plenty of Gator fans would disagree. To play in the NFL is a tremendous accomplishment. And to say otherwise is silly. His playoff game with the Broncos v Steelers was incredibly exciting. As a football fan I enjoy those types of underdog games. I don't give a shit about his politics. I don't even know them. I thought he was a decent guy. I saw a lot worse from players this past season. A murder/suicide & drunk driving fatality comes to mind. And while he may not be cut out for the NFL after all, I think all can agree the J-E-T-S suck big time! LOL, jk....kinda. Go Philly.

(30,481 posts)The only quarterback worse than Tebow on the Jets was their starter. They should have gone straight to the third string.

(21,020 posts)Geno Smith, who will be competing (probably not having to try very hard) with Sanchez for the starting QB position.
It looks like Smith is already drinking the Rex Ryan Kool-Aid, though...guaranteeing a trip to the playoffs this season.
Unless the whole toxic atmosphere improves in that organization, nobody is going anywhere

(38,437 posts)Tebow made that impossible. His grandstanding "Tebowing" was not subtle or humble; it was a play for the cameras.
His career is in trouble. He may end up playing arena ball.

Always drew attention to himself - yet football more than any other sport is about team.

But he looks like a train wreck throwing out of the QB spot, Tebow's mechanics are horrible.

What's the worst thing that could have happened....the Jets would have lost?

This is contrary to the belief of many gun haters. They will look at the picture and get dizzy but not understand why.

Im a non-believer, but I haven't seen him do anything that really bothers me.
He's pretty open about his beliefs, but as far as im concerned that means its perfectly okay for me to be open to him about my thoughts on those "beliefs" should I ever meet him.
kentuck
(115,407 posts)Just like most of us. However, his environment, from the Philippines forward, has been much different than the average person or athlete. But I am not ready to judge someone on their religious beliefs alone. He seems like a decent enough person to me.

(10,893 posts)the Jets were instead because at least the Broncos were able to make good usage out of him and win some games with him a couple of seasons ago. They were able to keep defenses off-guard with the threat of the wildcat, and a QB who is very agile and not afraid to use his legs.

(38,437 posts)If so, would you be okay with his religious openness if he were a Hindu? Shinto? Wiccan? Druid?
(EDIT: I notice that very few posters here object to Tebow at all. To answer my own question: Tebow's religion is not the issue for me; it's his expression of it with the "Hey! Look at me! I'm praying!!!" I'd hate that if he threw on a Druid's robe, lit a candle, and started chanting -- whenever he knew the camera was on him.)

So, I just counted the responses. If someone said something bad about him and made any comment about anything that could be even slightly construed as having religious overtones, I marked it as "Hates Tebow for being Christian"
If the poster didn't like Tebow but made only football related comments, that's a "Hates Tebow -- other"
If the poster praised Tebow, that's "Likes Tebow"
By the way, I put my comment in the first category; I don't dislike Tebow for being Christian, but I dislike his very public and camera-hogging prayers. Here are the results:
Hates Tebow for being Christian: 8
Hates Tebow --other: 12
Likes Tebow: 10
Looks like this sampling of DU has a 33% favorable rating for Tebow, 40% unfavorable rating because he sucks at football, and 27% "Christian jackass" rating.

(13,850 posts)I think the Jets picking him up was a joke. They never used him. Then they cut him in a humiliating way post draft when all teams are done. They treated him really poorly. Perhaps behind the scenes he was a total douchebag; I guess it's possible. I don't agree with his politics, but the Jets look like morons and made a total circus out of him, then they unceremoniously dump him at a terrible time ensuring difficulty in finding any other job.
