people were being paid. I've been here 16 years now and the wages are only slightly higher for hourly worker then they were when I first got here.

I have a friend who has been working at Walgreens for about 15 years. She started off at around $8/hour and now makes a little over $10/hour. And they just put a cap on the amount people can earn an hour there. But I'm sure the CEO takes home his many millions while his workers, who run his damn company for him, remain in poverty.

I still say we start a shaming campaign for these CEO'S.

make a certain number of times more than the worker. It used to be about 20 times. If the average worker made $10,000 then the CEO could make $200,000.

In today's world that would mean that a retail store such as Walgreens where the average pay of the hourly worker is about $8, ($16,640) the CEO would be allowed to make $332,800.

You know no CEO will stand for such a pittance for themselves so the only thing they would do is increase the hourly worker's wages so that they could get their money. It even sounds weird to think of a Walgreen's CEO making only $332,800 but that is because we are so used the the incredible income inequity.

If we fight to get a Democratic congress and hold on to the Senate it might be do-able. Even if they made 50 or 100 times more than the worker at least it isn't 1,000 times! The current CEO makes about $12,000,000 which is only 721 times the average worker salary.

but until we get Publicly-Funded Elections FIRST, that thing (as well as a lot of the other things we really need) is a pipe dream.
No discouragement is intended, but if we are going to kill the weeds, we have to start with the ROOTS.

We're pretty sane up here. Western Washington is mostly liberal, including very liberal, beautiful, cool, funky, brainy, rainy Seattle. We have marriage equality, and marijuana has been decriminalized. Until recently, all of our major elected offices were held by women; two US Senators, and Governor Gregoire. We now have Jay Inslee for Governor, and he is reliably progressive.

I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived up here for 30 years. I love it here! I would gladly welcome a fellow Southerner with open arms.

Second largest theatre district in the nation (after NYC of course), great symphony and opera, not terribly redneck for a southern city, plus an amazing variety of restaurants. You do need a car tho.

A little bit of a shock now, sure wasn't when I lived there. My first flight up here it was 98 at Hobby in the morning and I stepped out and it was 43. I felt like the world's biggest A/C had been turned on. Amazing. I do miss the shopping and restaurants, though.

Made the biggest mistake of my life moving to AZ from Chicago. Making 1/3 what I was making 12 years ago, haven't gotten a raise in 7 years, people think I'm making 'good money' here, because anything above minimum wage in AZ is considered 'good'.

I have over 30 years experience as a graphic artist and make what they pay McDs employees in Chicago. The difference? They get benefits.

Moved here because I thought it would help some annoying health problems. It didn't. The difference? I can't afford health insurance now.

Yes. I am an idiot.

The answer tends to be "Right-to-work will fix the problem if we give it time, and unemployment is as high as it is because of unions."

Yeah, it's idiocy, but that's the mindset.
