http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2013/05/01/george-jones-picket-baptist-church/2127523/UPDATE: Westboro member Margie Phelps later told The Tennessean, "I'm not sure it's fully decided at this moment." She says the group is also considering protests at NBA playoff games in Oklahoma City and Chicago in response to NBA player Jason Collins' recent announcement that he's gay. Phelps says chances of picketing Thursday in Nashville were "about 80/20 likely."

(59,578 posts). . . than this cretinous boatload of Bible-thumping roundworms have in every fact of their collective being, and will have down to the seventh generation of their inbred fuckstick descendants.

(1,273 posts)They keep saying they'll protest funerals and then they don't show up. I think they're just trying to get people to post about them on discussion boards. Maybe we should make it a forum rule not to post any more about Westboro planned protests.

(23,664 posts)will fail to show up for his own funeral.
An irresponsible person but a great singer. He deserves better than those assholes at his funeral.

(50,533 posts)About half an hour before the ceremony, run him out to the cemetery and bury him. At the ceremony, do all the tributes and such with an empty caisson sitting before the altar. Then when all is said and done, have all the musicians in attendance sing "They Call Him No Show Jones" and call it a day.

(9,975 posts)Really, i hope that was sarcasam, either that, or your musical soul has been excisedby laser. Ol "No Show" was a crazy drunk, a bad husband, and was gifted with the voice of an angel and a real artist's passion for the music.

(1,837 posts)..and the first band i played in was called, horribly, 'country fried'..
..that'd be a 'No,' and a 'Yes, it was.'
i pity and revile the westboros, but don't idolize the musical form, either.. or it's artisans. artists aren't good role models.. *especially* for other artists.

(14,120 posts)I have seen these people in action with no media around them, but their was a group out their doing a counter protest.
They were being protested and that was enough of a fix for them.

(31,114 posts)they don't threaten to protest? Except their own kind maybe
Lady Freedom Returns
(14,120 posts)They are addicted to the attention. It is like a drug. One of the documentaries on them showed they searching the internet to see all the bad stuff about themselves and fawning over it.
Their is something really wrong with this group.

(9,286 posts)What did George Jones do to get the WBC to protest his funeral. I don't remember hearing about him doing any type of activism that would get them to be PO'd at him. I know him mainly for his music and his music is pretty much classic country.
Most country (with a few exceptions like Natalie Maines and Willie Nelson)is pretty right wing so I don't get it.

(7,570 posts)Their modus operandi consists entirely of attention whoring and trying to incite people to be violent against them, for which their family of lawyers will sue. They are a cadre of con artists and nothing more.

(879 posts)He says most of the time Phelps just says he is going to show up to cause a stir and try to bring out the worst in people. It usually backfires and if they show up, the usually just leave unnoticed. When a local Marine died, over 10,000 people showed up to stand outside to protect the family from WBC. Two members of the church showed up, saw the crown, tucked their tails and headed straight back home. Those people are cowards!
