2. I thought brick and mortar stores were having trouble competing with the internet?

Or so goes the justification for implementing an internet sales tax.

It's closer to the truth that people are feeling financially pinched and naturally gravitating to the places where they can save money. That includes big box stores, Dollar Generals, and online.

An internet sales tax is not going to help Main Street; getting people back into work with decent pay will.

4. I was just in a Dollar General two days ago. Yes, they're hiring here...flyers were

on the door and taped to the shopping carts.

I think we should take the hiring with a grain of salt. Nice that they're
hiring but.....isn't it a sign of the times that a bargain store is
showing that much growth?

6. I sat next to a Dollar General Exec at a meeting

He told me they really love Wal-Mart, because Wal-Mart takes all the heat re employee pay and policies, but Dollar General is at least as bad if not worse.

10. I was wondering about that

Pay and benefits have to be at Walmart levels or below. Definately not a living wage type job.

11. 10,000 new minimum wage jobs. Yes, they are jobs, but with little or no future.

And they still do nothing to lift people out of poverty.

13. DG and fake job titles

Have you ever met an Assistant Manager who does not manage anyone? Or how about a Vice President who is not in charge of anything? Companies often give employees fancy job titles as a way to trick them out of overtime pay. The fake job title indicates that the person in that position does the kind of work that would exempt them from overtime pay. Reality is these job titles are often deceptive because the company just does not want to pay overtime.

For example, the Dollar General Store company gave employees pseudo titles such as Store Managers. But these managers did very little managing and a lot of hard labor like sweeping and stocking shelves, etc. A class action was brought on behalf of 1,424 managers and the company had to pay them $35 Million in unpaid overtime pay due to the bogus job titles. If you have a job title, make sure it accurately describes what you really do. It could be a trick to make you think that you are not entitled to overtime pay.

Just to prove a point!
