The corporate propaganda is getting increasingly weird and creepy.

Happy "Loyalty Day," everyone: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022787144

Like in Groundhog Day, we're expected to retain no memory or awareness of the relentless, horrifying pattern of betrayals unfolding before us, day after day after day after day after day. Each betrayal is presented as an aberration, a "special circumstance," or perhaps gazillion-dimensional chess on our behalf, that we couldn't possibly understand.

We are merely to smile and treat each one, again and again and again, as merely an aberration. We are to drift from betrayal to betrayal in hypnotic belief that our corporate Democrats share the same heartfelt principles and policy goals we do...even though their actions repeatedly, relentlessly pursue the opposite....

War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength
Drone Murders are Legal, Ethical and Wise
Chained CPI is Superlative and Protects the Poor
Obama put Social Security Cuts on the table because he Opposes them.

There's a reason all of this is happening. The culprit is no mystery: the deluge of corporate money and influence that has hijacked our elections, both parties, and the media. It is rotting Washington to the core and destroying this country.

However, I've got more agitprop pieces to add:

Tehran is run by madmen, therefore all Iranians = evil/anti-American.

Climate change is a hoax perpetrated by Obamabots & the U.N. and oil is only good for us.
or conversely.....
Climate change is going to (possibly and/or inevitably, what fucking difference does it make?!?! It's still fearmongering.) kill all humanity/destroy civilization; the IPCC and certain others are lying to us about/hiding the true severity of climate change; We must end all consumption/kill the economy to survive; humans are parasites; (and, to add, anyone who doesn't agree with any of this is somehow a "lukewarmer", or secret denialist, etc.) etc.

Obama is a secret communist(or conversely, Republican) who wants to destroy the working class to implement a police state.

Jews who question Israel are bad people and traitors to their own community.

All Palestinians/Lebanese/Syrians/etc. are wannabe Islamists who only want to destroy Israel.

There are no dictatorships in capitalist nations.

Hugo Chavez was a maniacal Stalinist dictator.

The Iraq War was justified because 9/11, etc.

DURec

The Haymarket affair (also known as the Haymarket massacre or Haymarket riot) refers to the aftermath of a bombing that took place at a labor demonstration on Tuesday May 4, 1886, at Haymarket Square[2] in Chicago. It began as a peaceful rally in support of workers striking for an eight-hour day. An unknown person threw a dynamite bomb at police as they acted to disperse the public meeting. The bomb blast and ensuing gunfire resulted in the deaths of seven police officers and at least four civilians; scores of others were wounded.

In the internationally publicized legal proceedings that followed, eight anarchists were convicted of conspiracy. The evidence was that one of the defendants may have built the bomb, but none of those on trial had thrown it.[3][4][5][6] Seven were sentenced to death and one to a term of 15 years in prison. The death sentences of two of the defendants were commuted by Illinois governor Richard J. Oglesby to terms of life in prison, and another committed suicide in jail rather than face the gallows. The other four were hanged on November 11, 1887. In 1893, Illinois' new governor John Peter Altgeld pardoned the remaining defendants and criticized the trial.

The Haymarket affair is generally considered significant as the origin of international May Day observances for workers.[7][8] The site of the incident was designated a Chicago Landmark on March 25, 1992,[9] and a public sculpture was dedicated at the site in 2004. The Haymarket Martyrs' Monument in nearby Forest Park was designated a National Historic Landmark on February 18, 1997, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[10]

There was no search without a warrant...there was no spying on you, reading your mail and watching you at all times....there was no "War on terror" or War on drugs and no state of permanent war...there was no DHS and no police dress up in military garb with assault weapons and APCs....no stop and frisk, no sneak and peek...the bill of rights was still in effect then.
And should anyone have suggested doing any one of the above you would have been attacked by dems and Gopers alike...now those things are normal.

So pardon me if I think that "loyalty Day" is not just a bit creepy but totally creepy...given the above.

like they are now. The middle class and the protections for employees were being actively built and defended by Democrats, not systematically devastated through bipartisan legislation.

Perpetuating "Loyalty Day" was a choice.

*Especially* given the political climate we live in, and especially given this President's promises during election season to be a voice for the 99 percent devastated by corporate greed, the proactive choice to continue this malignant message, when even simply remaining silent would have been easier, is creepy and insulting.

in 1960 one worker could earn enough to support a family...and because of that, we had a growing and prosperous middle class...
Unless you are a professional like doctor lawyer you will need at least two incomes to live on...and even then it will be on the edge...
I take that as a 100% decline in income in 50 years.

As quoted by Noam Chomsky in "Manufacturing Consent"

"Where the major investors in political parties and elections agree on an issue, the parties will not compete on that issue, no matter how strongly the public might want an alternative".

The same people pay for both parties.

He contends that for ordinary voters to influence electoral choices they would have to have strong channels that directly facilitate mass deliberation and expression. These would include unions and other intermediate organizations that might, through their collective power, cause the interests of ordinary voters to be given greater weight in the political system".

Remember when we voted in Democrats in 2006 to end the war in Iraq? But after the election Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and their sponsors decided otherwise. They could have cut off the funding right then and there and ended the war.

Orwell ain't got nothing on these guys.

It's a great quote, that I first heard when Sweeney used it in her excellent "Letting Go of God" show.

I'm usually a stickler for proper attribution and quoting. I'll change it, to make sure Prof. McKown gets proper credit, when I get home later tonight.

31. When they had a REAL monopoly
Fri May 3, 2013, 04:52 PM

i.e. there was no choice or very limited choices a chosen idiot could get the opportunity to dominate national conversation and simplistic memes universally shared were nearly beyond challenge. Now they are transforming into a commercial niche. People tire very much of commercialization and have too many choices. Celebrity status will shrink percentage wise. Propaganda will not be universally shared.

As a niche choice it has some elite status as THE MSM as long as it relates heavily to, say, Facebook. Radio is farther out and more "niched" to death and newspapers follow. Excluding vast areas of truth and social responsibility are not doing them any good in this expanding sea. Dissolving into or competing with better choices and certainly more honest news seems only to be hardening their arteries. Since the money is no longer being shared beyond the one percent who dominate these lie bordered tracts of media self interest, fewer people find it useful, entertaining or anything but boring and irritating.

As with the minions that still have land lines, TV's and newspapers as their core relationship with news and culture they are being left behind en masse in a resentful niche that very much resembles a cranky outmoded power elite of a vanished generation. The future they try to mold is even more DOA and obvious. The even crankier people don't even like the MSM or technology or new games fake money people play. They would just as soon blow it in a casino, donate it to a nouveau Billy Sunday, or dig themselves by the normal means to an early grave which takes up an even larger part of their assaulted wage resources.

In perusing DU it seems, and I could be wrong, that it becoming rarer to discuss the corporate media hogs because they are becoming as irrelevant as they have always been predictable. It doesn't mean the needed job is being done elsewhere or people are smarter, just that the inflexible propaganda soul of the MSM will not change. How can it? They buy into the money game where control, financial, gaming, denial of services have become the ONLY way they can "prosper". Fooling some of the people all of the time has become their last ditch defense.
