And you have a smart teenager who goof in a High school chemisty class and mix the wrong chemicals together and now she's facing federal bomb making charges.

To me this is WAY too over-reactionary for stupid stuff.

Can someone explain to my wife and I HOW these charges are seriously be held up let alone charge to begin with. Are we going to see this get worse?

My wife just asked me : "What's next? Am I going to be charge with some for of Terrorism because I think charging these two people is ass-stupid?"

4. It has come into fashion to label people things from nuts to terrorists and spread fear

Because fear sells. We fear each other now more than anytime in my lifetime.

Everyone wants to shoot you, blow up the plane you are in, use fireworks to make bombs --- so we rush to make new laws to make us feel safer from the fear peddlers and give the government even more control over our lives.

We yell about them restricting some freedoms (like abortion) and applaud them on pretty much anything else they want to do to remove choices (from sodas to who you drink with).

We have lost consistency out of fear of fellow citizens. But then when those same citizens get a job in government - *bing* they become magically good and we trust them (except cops sometimes).

We are practically begging the few to control the many of us, and when you speak out against it you are a nut, a hater, libertarian, etc.

Not sure when it became passe to be pro-rights and freedom but it will only get worse as more people lap up the fear like thirsty dogs.

5. The law and order thing is to make good little automatons afraid of non-conformance.

Individuality is anathema to these people, and the kids are paying the price. It's a fine way to produce people who will do what they are told, when they are told, and live in fear of the powers that be.

I had no idea this girl was going be charged by the feds?

My son brought a Chinese star to school. It's a martial arts thing and is about as dangerous as a knife. Felony weapons charge. (Case was dropped)

My son knew this was wrong prior to sneaking it into school. He made it at home and my husband took it away. Instead, he managed to make another one. This was in 2001, before all the anti-terrorism laws.
