Just asking about background checks

I am, of course, unhappy that the minimum law did not pass.

But, would background check have prevented Columbine? Aurora? Tuscon? Sandy Hook? Perhaps Virginia Tech, not sure.

I really wish they would go after assault weapon - whatever that means - after loaded clips that can discharge many rounds in seconds.

Perhaps this should be the topic of discussion. And then see what the excuses are for the opponents.

If universal background checks can't pass, we don't have a chance in hell of getting even more stringent gun control passed. I have contacted my Senators and let them know my feelings on gun control and my disappointment in their votes on the universal background checks. I've only heard back from the Rep. who gave me a carefully worded "there, there, little lady, don't you worry about this". I reminded Senator Pryor that I would remember his vote on this issue when I went to the voting booth, but I haven't received a reply from him as yet.

after I contacted them before the vote, just to provide a counter balance for any nuts who might have flooded their email.

But both were quick to add how much they support the 2nd Amendment.

Even David Stockman - Reagan Budget Director - says that this is anachronism.

Still, I think that the background check provided an excuse for many, including Democrats, who said, or may have said, that such checks would not have prevented the recent tragedies. And they many have been right.

it was a piece of puzzle. Also shows gun crowd is full of it when they talk about "responsibility" and similar BS.

But they, especially the Democrats, could explain that this would not have prevented the recent tragedies. And they would have been right.

Like the "grand bargain" perhaps we do need to go the crux of the matter and then see how they explain it.

I don't know.
