In So Cal. This is the "harvest fire," in the Otay Mesa area east of Bown Field. Per local Cal-Fire it's 15-20 acres, and poses a threat to a salvage yard. It's also a stone throw away from the Mexican border, as in a mile best case.
Yup. Listening to the scanner...just breaking
And soon we'll have some on the paper, but for the momemt fron Channel 10

It's been a wild fire day...this is the fifth fire, first really significant. Once they give them a name I get worried

Take care,

(154,021 posts)And just pointed out that we have a new one...realize we have San Diego assets at both banning and Spring. So if we get too many small fires guess what? They'll have to go HELP to other states, or even countries.
Just looking at the big picture here.
SoCalDem
(103,856 posts)They are probably at Banning or the fire off the 60 to the east of us.
This will be a horrible fire season, I fear

(154,021 posts)Right now we have three smallish working fires...over traffic, they are keeping people for overtime.
It won't be pretty. Amarillo is just the first of many monster fires I fear.

(19,339 posts)If you have someone telling you that transcribing scanner chatter about a local fires onto the general discussion forum of political website is part of the job, they are wrong.

Sign up to receive free Viejas Wildfire and Emergency Alerts via email at the top right side of our homepage and also receive a free weekly copy of East County Magazine. You can also follow ViejasAlerts on Twitter for brief text alerts on your mobile phone. We recommend all of the above since you can't know what form of communications will work best in a major regional emergency.
Heck, it was in the body of the text she linked to.

Donning my Nomex® cap: the fires started on May Day, proof unrestrained globalization can be blamed on Volunteer firemen. :scratches head:

(37,048 posts)I've really enjoyed the warm, dry spring. Now it's time to begin paying for it, I'm afraid. All ya'll in fire country stay safe until the rains start again! All ya'll snarking about wildfire like it's not really a problem, STFU. Fire is an important part of our western ecology. Coincidentally, it kills people and animals, and destroys property. So far this year is looking like it might be a bad fire year out here.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)And off the record, from other fire agencies, expect it to be busy...

(151,221 posts)Now, the 28,000 acre Spring Fire is really news, but a 10-15 acre fire is not even listed on the Cal Fire map. I'm sure it's out by now. In the meantime the Spring Fire is still uncontained.
Yours is a tiny local story. It's not of national interest. It's barely of local interest, except to the people immediately adjacent to it.
I'm sorry, but I don't think that is what DU or GD is about.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)It was contained at 120 acres, and somewhat close to the Donovan prison
