Report: 5 killed when limo catches fire on California bridge

(CNN) -- Five people were killed late Saturday night when their limousine caught on fire in the San Francisco Bay Area, police said.

Five other occupants were able to escape when flames overtook the vehicle as it was headed west on the San Mateo Bridge, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Amelia Jack who spoke to CNN affiliate KGO.

Ten women in their 30s were in the limo when it caught fire, Jack said.

The car pulled over; the driver and four others were able to get out.

They tried to retrieve the other five but were unsuccessful, Jack said.

5. How horrible. No, I didn't know that. But I don't "do" limos.

I've always thought that's silly. I've never participated in a limo evening. I wouldn't find it fun, it's pricey, and what the hell for? I guess I'm a stick in the mud.
