A Federal Firearms Operator's License

I think this is the answer. I think this is what we can do, that will do some good.

This is not a registry of guns, though I want one. This is an operator licensure. The license would have perhaps three classes: long gun, handgun, and NFA.

What I offer to pass this: Federal pre-emption. Every US Citizen who meets the criminal and mental health checks is entitled to a basic long gun license. Also a citizenship requirement.

Talking point: you have to prove you are eligible to vote, but nobody records who you vote for. This makes you prove you are eligible to buy a firearm, but nobody records which ones you buy.

Question why seperate the long gun and handgun licence why not keep them together. Also if you could then use this licence as you having a defacto background check, ie you show your licence the seller calls the hotline and gets a go ahead you buy the weapon. I dont know anyone who lives in a states border area handles the hassles of being permitted to carry on one side of the street so to speak but then having to secure the weapon as the jink in and out of other states. By issuing a countrywide cc permit it would mean less handling of the weapon and people not inadvertently breaking the law as they pass into areas where their cc permit is not recognised.
